In an overgrown field clumps of different grasses grow to maturity. Safe from a lawn mower. The result are tall blades/stalks with their different seed formations. It's a mini jungle where only the strongest survive.
These grasses provide food for birds and insects. They also provide fertilizer for small plants and bushes, which all make it possible for trees to grow and thrive.
I see some goldenrod in there as well.
Oh there are lots along the road. Not so much rag weed the big pollen menace.
