Check out what I ran into today...

in #nature8 years ago (edited)

With all the changes going on with Steemit lately I figured it would be a good time to hit the golf course for a little break.

Much to my surprise this guy was also cruising around the course.

Yes that is indeed a rattler!

He was easily over 6 feet in length and one of the biggest rattlesnakes I have ever seen!

The golf course is often a prime location to spot these guys in the spring time out here in Arizona as they come out of their winter dens and sun themselves in the open grassy areas.

Luckily he didn't appear to be interested in much besides trying to find his next hiding spot!

Phew :)

Live well my friends!

Never actually saw one when I would visit my parents in Arizona... but on some of the courses I remember seeing "beware of snakes" signs at the edge of the rough and natural areas. I guess the aren't kidding...

Yep especially on the desert courses.

🙀🙀🙀 one of those swollowed my little Ghost in Bali , a Kitty cat 8 months young

That's terrible... was it a rattlesnake?

Actually it was a python 🐍 I don't know what a Rettlesnake is and I don't even want to know hahha

If you look at the tail it has a "rattle" on the end of it. You should look them up, they are pretty interesting!

I will but I am native Austrian and didn't grow up with those creatures. I find them amazing but I can't help, snakes make me feel shaky.

It's a venomous snake rather than a constrictor. It has dried scales on its tail that it rattles in a buzzing noise to deter anything it thinks might be a threat.

Yep, very different type of snake... although I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to eat a kitten as well.

OH! Where is it? Cool photo!

It was at a local golf course out here in Arizona...

Don't get into a sand trap there!

Haha yep they like to hang out in those!

Crazy ass rattle snakes. We have them here in sunny California as well. @jrcornel, thatndont have to rattle before they strike

Yea those are the scary ones...

During my time in the Cali desert I always looked forward to finding one.. unfortunately never did.
Guess they always show up when you don't expect them to..

Yea, often they are under large rocks or dens during the day. As it gets warmer here they come out to sit on the cooler grass of the golf course. In that way golf courses tend to concentrate the snakes. Plus there are all kinds of rodents and reptiles all around the golf course making for an abundance of food.

oh my wow yikes! phew

Good looking rattle snake

Yep, one of the biggest I've seen!
