Fascinating Animal World- 1 week - "Sphynx: the sphinx cat"

in #nature7 years ago

Welcome to the post series on "The fascinating animal world" this week we will meet the famous hairless cat: (Sphynx-the sphinx cat)

"What do you think about this hairless cat?"

The Sphynx or Sphinx cat is a cat that breaks all the topics that have always surrounded the feline world. In addition to having a different physiology, it has a personality that resembles that of a dog more than that of any feline. This Egyptian cat was the model in which Steven Spielberg was inspired to create his most famous film character, E.T.

Where does Sphynx come from?

The concrete origin of this race is unknown, although naked cats with an effigy form have been recorded in Egyptian and pre-Columbian earthen vessels. However, the current race is of the twentieth century. The appearances of felines without hair have been documented since 1960, but it is not until 1966 when they begin to breed.

Physical appearance of the sphinx cat

The most striking feature of this breed is the lack of hair. This feature does not cause disadvantages with respect to the other felines, although the sensation that causes the touch is very different. Its skin is soft and the internal temperature of its body is high, since it does not have a mantle that isolates it from the cold.

The Sphynx is a medium-sized cat, healthy, robust and muscular. Their ears are very large and the eyes have an ellipse shape, like a lemon. It has a prominent and rounded belly, and the fact that it has wrinkles does not mean it is old. What's more, wrinkles in this breed are highly valued, especially if they are around the snout, between the ears, around the shoulders and in the neck.

 character

This cat, unlike most felines, is very affectionate and tireless, and constantly seeks the pampering of its owners. This breed is outside the common of the canons that generally characterize the cats, since it mixes characteristics of the simians, the canids and the felines.

The sphinx cat is affectionate, intelligent, playful, and very dependent. If there is something that he does not support, it is life alone. Many times he has been defined as a small clown very alive and active.

What does Sphynx eat?

The diet of this animal must be balanced, very nutritious and, above all, rich in fats, since having no hair, you need to burn a large amount of calories to maintain your body temperature. This cat is very sweet and is always willing to eat whatever it is, so it is advisable to monitor your diet and not offer food for humans, since it can harm you.

The best food for the sphinx cat is industrial food. Industrial food, over time, has evolved positively thanks to scientific and veterinary research. In the market there are different types of preparations, manufactured according to the physiological state of the animal, and even special diets for the prevention or cure of feline diseases.

In fact, there is specific food in the market for Sphynx, made with elaborated products that meet their needs. In the case that you prefer to give a more generic preparation, that is, manufactured for any breed, it must be of high quality; In addition, it should be kept in mind that since it is a cat that eats more than usual, it will ingest larger amounts of food.

In addition, it is necessary to supplement dry foods with moist or semi-moist. Finally, it is very important that this cat always has at its disposal fresh and clean water, which will help to cover your water needs.

What special care should be given to Sphynx?

The high-calorie diet produces more fat on your skin and more wax in your ears, so it's best to clean your hearing pads regularly with wipes. Also, even if you do not have hair, the hygiene of this cat is just as important as in the rest of the cats.

Therefore, it will be necessary to submit weekly baths in summer and monthly during winter. The shampoos and soaps that should be used with this cat must be soft and dermoprotective, since having no hair these products are in direct contact with the skin.

Ailurophile is the word cat lovers are officially called.

Yes! its true!

If your cat snores, or rolls over on his back to expose his belly, it means he trusts you.

if he grabs you with his paws while you caress him, he takes care of it well!

British cat owners spend roughly 550 million pounds yearly on cat food.

if that's true, they love their cats a lot!

In the 1930s, two Russian biologists discovered that color change in Siamese kittens depend on their body temperature. Siamese cats carry albino genes that work only when the body temperature is above 98° F. If these kittens are left in a very warm room, their points won’t darken and they will stay a creamy white.
