End of My Rabbit Business

in #nature7 years ago

In the month of june, 2017. I decided to go into rabbit farming. I bought just one dutch buck and a harlequin doe. Also i got an iron cage which cost a lot. I was ignorant of several information but willing to learn. Two months down the line i got my doe mated. It gave birth to four beautiful kits (rabbit babies). I was elated and made sure they were comfortable. Took them to a warmer wooden cage. Only for an evil eye to be cast on my rabbit business. The only male baby rabbit died in just 2 weeks due to malnutrition. Not fed by its mother. I tried to make it live but futile was my effort. After that a month passed and the remaining three baby rabbits all does (female) began to get big and grow. I watched them developed and my love for them grew.

Suddenly, duting my usual daily clean up of the cage i noticed i couldnt find one kit. I panicked then searched deeper. Only to find it dead. I was mad. Gave them all antibiotics, made the cage cleaner. Worked more hours to ensure sound health. I mourned the loss of my beautiful kit. The next morning i found another kit dead. I couldnt take it anymore. My family sympathised with me. Then i began to think what could be the caused. Only to check the wooden cage to find termites. Instantly i carried the only one baby rabbit left with its mother out of the wooden cage and returned to the iron cage.

Was unhappy, so i immediately got the mother rabbit mated again after 6 weeks. And she gave birth to six kits this time around. I was so joyous. Began to feed her more and give clean water and a cleaner cage. Only for the mother rabbit not to feed the rabbits...for days. I had to painfully pet the mother rabbit so she can be calm to feed her young. Shes always restless. Cares only about her food and not her new kits. The newer kits began to die daily. Finally they all died. By then i was hardhearted and didnt care anymore. I jusIMG_20171127_084905.jpgt wanted to kill them and eat. But i thought better. And decided to sell them online since am into ecommerce.

My fiance, doesnt want me to do the business anymore and wants me to sell them off. My efforts, time, food, money, all wasted..already missing them. At the same time i feel like eating them.

Still confused. Should i eat or sell?

Raising rabbits can be a tricky proposition.

Personally, I'd butcher and eat them.

Hmm...yeah. Thought so too. Being dreaming of rabbits meat for a while now
