Hi Steemit family!

Mysterious fish that lives in the depths of the ocean

Today I bring you one of the most terrifying animals that the world knows, of course, the fact that it has a grotesque aspect does not mean that it is bad, perhaps the condition of life is one of the most influential aspects in its aspect, also evolution. I am talking about the Fangtooth short-horned fish. Come with me to know some of its main characteristics.

source

It lives mainly in the abyssal zones of the Pacific and the Atlantic Ocean, this species belongs to the family order of the anoplogastrids, only in the last century it was discovered in 1986. Its body is big and robust, what stands out the most is its enormous head.

source

The contrasts of his big head are his very small eyes, the skin has tones ranging from black to dark brown, the rest of the body is simple without any major alteration.

source

Unlike other species of fish Fangtooth short-horned has the scales attached to the skin, in adulthood is provided with powerful teeth that not only serve to tear apart their prey, also serve to prevent them from escaping due to its concave shape inward is generated as a kind of cell, all fish that between is stopped. In its larval stage is difficult for other fish to eat the Fangtooth short-horned because this covered with thorns would end up killing any fish that tries to eat the larva.

source

When it reaches its final stage of development we can see that the specimens of Fangtooth short-horned can have the next 60mm long, has at least 20 dorsal fins, 28 vertebrae, as mentioned one of the most striking and terrifying things are their teeth.

source

It is found mainly in abyssal waters of the Gulf of Mexico, in waters of the Bahamas and some maritime areas of the United States of North America. There are only 2 kinds of Fangtooth in the same family, the Anoplogaster brachycera that is present only in tropical waters of the American continent and is an abundant species while the Anoplogaster cornuta is present in the other abyssal waters of almost all the world, but there are fewer copies.

source

As for its reproduction is very similar to the rest of the fish, what if it changes a little is a series of changes in its growth as its larval state where it has powerful spines capable of breaking the mouth of anyone who dares to eat the Fangtooth larval stage, its eyes are large when young and are becoming smaller as it grows.

source

What I find really striking are his teeth, in a way similar to those of a shark, has several rows that fit curved and inward, it seems that he has no space, but may have several rows accommodated in his jaw.

source

It is incredible how the species that develop in hostile environments like the abyssal zones in the oceans can live perfectly, of course with some characteristics that can horrify the bravest person, although as I said is not that they are bad, perhaps if humans had been touched to develop in an environment similar to that of our friend Fangtooth, today we would be a little different. Don't you think?

source

Fortunately, we live at sea level and many times above so we do not have to worry about Fangtooth, it will not reach our home much less we can scare while we swim on the beach.
