Here's some of my scrappy chickens hanging around the kitchen. They get some of their best meals by pecking at our kitchen scraps, so they come around several times per day.
Notice we use an open top drain from the kitchen sink, so even the scraps lost down the drain can be pecked through!

These are our 'wild bunch'. 4 years ago we bought some egg-layers, and the farm came with some small 'mothering' hens, and we bought an enormous rooster, and they all mixed up and seemed to have made a breed of wild, medium-sized egg-layers that can jump 15 feet high if you try to pick them up. I now have to use a pull-string trap to catch one for dinner, but they still enjoy pooping on my porch!
