Taipei's Chinese Culture University has said that raindrop has been observed for nearly nine hours in Taiwan last week.
Rainbow is seen for 8 hours and 58 minutes in observation, picture and video recording.
If it is sure, the new record will be recorded for the longest time in the Guinness Book.
Preparations are being made to go to Guinness World Records Authority with proof of all information from the University.
Professor Xuan Qun-Suan of the Department of Atmospheric Science said, "It was amazing ............. Being gifted from the sky ... it is rare!"
Professor Choew was quoted as saying that the scene was great in the last week.
She and her department also hold pictures and videos of Rangdhan with the help of Liu Ching-Huang Division students and campus community.
Their claim, the rainbow is lasting for eight hours and 54 minutes in the local time from 6:57 am to 15:55.
If the university authorities are able to prove their claims, it will be a new world record.
Earlier on March 14, 1994, raindrop was observed for six hours in Yorkshire in England. The rainy season lasted from 9:00 am to noon 15:00 local time of service.
Usually Rainbow lasts less than one hour.
Professor Chou said, "After four hours we gather all our students and start giving it to everyone at the university. So that they make pictures and send them to us.
"When the past record broke after six hours, I was having lunch. It was very difficult for me to sit in the chair. I became very excited. I wanted to keep pictures, videos every moment of that time. But as time goes on, it seems incredible. It crossed the past record of three hours. "
