Hello Steemians,
This picture is worth a thousand words, and I bet you just can't disagree with me on this. Another species is on the verge of becoming extinct because of our wrong-doings. It is very disheartening and saddening to see these poor creatures pay the price of our deeds. I do not intend to curse ourselves but it is high time that we take responsibility of our actions.
The last male white rhino, aged 45, was put to sleep on Monday after age-related complications worsened significantly. And now only two females - his daughter and granddaughter - of the subspecies are alive in the world. Hope for preserving the northern white rhino now lies in developing in vitro fertilisation (IVF) techniques. "His death is a cruel symbol of human disregard for nature and it saddened everyone who knew him," said Jan Stejskal, an official at Dvur Kralove Zoo in the Czech Republic, where Sudan had lived until 2009.
You know what is even worse, every year, we spend hundreds and thousands of billions of dollars on things that we don't really need like wars, drugs, and many other destructive activities. Imagine what all could be done if we used that money judiciously. It could eradicate world's hunger, provide quality education to all, it could be used for campaigns to spread awareness about importance of conservation of nature. But somewhere in the journey of becoming this modern, civilized, progressive man, we have lost our humanity, compassion, empathy towards others - things that define us humans.
I do not advocate against the researches and experiments, and I do believe that these things help a lot to make the world a better place. But spending our limited resources on trying to revive dinosaurs instead of doing something to conserve what we have already got, and trying to replicate things that mother nature has already given us does not make any sense to me. From where I see, there is no point in expending the resources on secondary or tertiary things unless we have got the primary things right.
This may seem like a not so significant topic to discuss, but believe me it is. Such topics should make us think what we are doing wrong. I believe that we need to be better at setting the priorities, we need to realize the gravity of such trivial seeming problems and do more to solve them, and most importantly, we need to be more humane.
They are endangered species. Rhino's are hunted by mafias across the globe.
And still the authorities are not doing enough to protect them
Very dishearting and worthy to note its very unfortunate but end of its life nothing can be done to revive when end time comes. Thanks for sharing this worthy post.
This made me very sad. These are incredible animal being wiped out forever. So sad.
In my opinion it's more than necessary to discus such h topics! The humanity should be ashamed! 😡
I totally agree with you
