A powerful earthquake in Italy that killed dozens of people, leaving many people injured and is still missing, and destroyed towns and villages.
An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale, followed by several aftershocks, struck at 3:36 am local time on Wednesday, 100km north-east of Rome.
The epicenter was near Norcia, a popular city visited by foreign tourists. But most of the people killed by the earthquake is located in nearby towns and villages Accumoli and Amatrice Pescara del Tronto.

The first fatality was confirmed, after an earthquake hit the town Amatrice, when search teams found two bodies in the rubble.
The main street in the city of Amatrice narrows as it was filled rubble by the quake.
Unlike buildings in the vicinity were damaged, the clock tower in the center of the city remained standing.
Many homes around the town was completely destroyed by the earthquake.
A church in the town was also badly damaged, the roof of the building collapsed.

Mayor Accumoli, Stefano Petrucci said hundreds of people in the city have been left homeless.
A section of the road to the village of Pescara del Tronto almost entirely destroyed.
Photographs taken from the air by a team of local fire show houses virtually flat by the earthquake.
Accumoli, a small town in the mountains, the first victim was a family consisting of four people. They were found under the rubble of buildings that collapsed.
Mayor Stefano Petrucci told reporters: "A tragedy occurred here. Many people are still under the rubble, it's not a good situation."
He said initially the city was of only 700 inhabitants, but increased to 2,000 people in the summer due to tourism. But now he fears for the future of tourism after the earthquake shook the region.
"I hope they do not forget us," he told Sky TG24 television broadcaster.
Pescara del Tronto The village also included the areas most severely affected by the earthquake, the Italian news agency ANSA reported that at least 10 people have been killed there.
The main road to and from the city is covered by debris, so rescuers difficult to enter the territories affected by the earthquake.
