Sunflowers are absolutely my favorite flower! Lucky for me I live in a city where sunflowers grow everywhere. I like how they grow so big and literally resemble the sun and how they just give off a happy cheerful vibe when they bloom.

You can actually learn a lot from these fellas!

What I love about sunflowers is how they grow and their nature as a flower. Despite how abundant they are in my city, sunflowers actually need a lot of space sunlight to grow. They grow best with about 6-8 hours of sunlight a day and amongst other sunflowers but not around too many or else they end up competing for the rays of sun. Just like us, in order to grow we need to surround ourselves with the right type of people who help us. As we grow older we come to realize that a lot of friends doesn't always mean better. Don't surround yourself with the many who try to bring you down or steal your "sunlight" but only with the few who share their positivity and encourage your growth.

Speaking of positivity, sunflowers grow by a behavior called 'heliotropism', meaning they grow by directing themselves at the sun. So in the morning, the sunflower will face the east as the sun rises and then as the day comes to an end it faces the west as it watches the sunset. Amazing right? This is another trait we can learn from the sunflower. It always looks on the bright side... literally! It faces the sun from the moment it rises until it sets. It's reward? A bigger and more beautiful bloomed flower!

It's amazing when we come to the realization that the simple everyday nature flourishing around us can actually give us a lesson or two on life. Sometimes maybe even follow their steps and be rewarded with a more beautifully bloomed YOU! 🌻
