This is my hobby: electrical repair

Electrical Repair is a globally recognized profession, right from when I was Eight, I always feel happy to open electrical devices, always anxious to know the component in them. As small as I was then, I always try to open stuffs like lamps, torch light, toys and any other electrical appliance within my reach, which has brought upon me several punishments because I forcefully open electrical device at the absence of my parent and get it spoilt or I won’t be able to restore the electrical device to its original state. A day I will never forget was this faithful day my father and mother where not at home, I and my friend was the only one at home, that day, I came across a touch light in my father’s drawer, I know fully well that something use to light up in it (which is the bulb), I opened the touch light and remove the bulb in it. Unfortunately for me, there was electricity, then I told my friend, since electricity can power the bulb in my room, it should be able to power the bulb with me also. Then we looked for two wires, switch off the socket and we insert the two wires into the socket and then agree to hold the two wires one by one upon the two terminals before we turn on the switch, when we are set, we turn on the switch yeeeeeeeeeee! We both scream at the same time. That was the first time I experience electric shock. I can’t tell my parent about what happened to me when they were not around. Because I have been warned several times by my father against such act. Luckily for me, my friend told his father about what happened to us, his father was angry with us when he heard about how we put our lives in danger all because we want to light up a bulb, he warned us against such act and taught us how to use a dry cell to light up the bulb. My love for electrical work increase significantly since this day. After this day, I keep reading books to increase my knowledge about electrical repair. Luckily for me, I came across electricity in my new school physics textbook, where I was able to read about series and parallel connections and some precautions when dealing with electricity.
My hobby has been a priority to me and it will always be. My hobby keeps me busy, gives me reasons to think and to make more research so has to increase my knowledge about component in an electrical device and since I always feel happy when I work on electrical devices most especially rechargeable lamps, I use to spend a lot of time indoor, working on lamps which now consumes the time I use to spend with friends. Moreover, my hobby is now a source of money for me, even if I feel like hanging out with friends, I won’t be able to, because I already have electrical repairs I am supposed to attend to and get them back to the owner as fast as possible. So as to prevent failing my customers, since my motto is to deliver my service as fast as possible, which has been my strength over other colleague. Since I am yet to have a shop, I gain trust from my customers as a result of the testimonies of other customers who I have get there lamps or electrical devices repaired successfully in a good timely manner.
I won’t consider myself an expert in my hobby because I did not learn my hobby from a boss in particular, I only took advantage of an electrician whose shop is close to my house. when I was fifteen years old, I took the advantage of how close my house is to his shop to visit him in his shop regularly and indirectly learning things like how to hold a scolding iron while scolding and how to use a multi tester to test components like resistors and capacitors in an electronic device from him and also ask questions about anything bordering my mind about electrical repairs. Then I build on the knowledge I gained from him by reading text books, reading online guides on electrical repairs and also watch tutorial videos online. More so, I believe in other people’s comment. A person cannot see how beautiful or handsome he or she is except if he or she make use of a mirror. I take my customers as my mirror to judge me by how good the work I have done for them is.
I love my hobby because it prompts me to know more about technological updates. As we all know that technology become stronger and smarter day after day, opening some new electrical device motivates me never to give up on updating myself by going online to know more about the components in them. I can’t depend on what I have learnt in years back only to successfully repair the electrical devices that are recently produced, so I need to keep myself updated with the new components in an electronics device and its advantage over the old components in it. My hobby also help me to increase my reasoning ability. Dealing with electrical devices is a factor of how you can task your brain on how you can find solution to a spoilt component, sometimes I need to combine two or more resistors to meet up with the required ohms of resistance needed to get an electrical device fixed. More so, in some case, I only need to scold one or two disconnected wires, which will take me few minutes to get it done. I am always appreciated for getting their device fixed despite the fact that I will be paid for my service.
Practicing my hobby as become one of my daily life, I can’t do without laying my hands on at least two electrical devices for repair per day. As a student, practicing my hobby as not been easy though but since I derive pleasure in doing it and it also serve as source of income for me, I always create time to put it in practice even if I have to stay awake overnight to put it into practice.
