I was on my bed sleeping while listening to 'the lazy song' by Bruno mars at the early hours of yesterday when i got a call at about 8:00am that i was to represent corp members in my local government area at the Rivers state government house. Wow! I quickly jumped out of my bed, picked my towel and other bathing aids as i rushed to the bathroom to shower, all that kept ringing in my head was 'national cake, national cake- cake- cake' lol.
Within 5-10minutes, i was ready and fully dressed in my NYSC kaki . As i walked out of the corpers lodge, my fellow corp members tendered their various messages to the Governor as they waved me goodbye...Top on their request list was a reminder about the promised NYSC state allowee.
The meeting was slated for 12:00pm but i tried all i could to get there early enough since i was about 2hours away from the state capital. At about 12:15pm i landed in front of the Government house but my biggest challenge was how to locate the ministry of youth and sports building as i toured round the unending roads and buildings within the Government house until i met a security man who helped me to the venue.
When i entered the venue, the commissioner for youth and sports coupled with other dignitaries where already seated and deeply engrossed in the proceedings. I felt like i was going to poo in my pants because i was late and there was no room for African time! All eyes where on me as i walked in silently and a bit shaky...only the looks on my local government inspector's face was enough to make me varnish from that building. I kinda made my way and joined up other LGA reps. It was supposed to be a day i get to partake in the national cake but things aint looking good for me right from the entrance...
...
