Indian government has decided to end the subsidy given to the Indian Muslims for visiting HAJ Pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. This decision has been preceded when Indian Apex court has given a judgement in 2012, asking central government of India to abolish the practice of the subsidy.
The cut in the subsidy is to be used in welfare activities for the Muslim girls and the education activities for the Muslims. Many Indian on social media are expressing happiness over this new policy.
The decision to abolish so called Haj subsidy is seen as welcome move , as the Haj subsidy was a misnomer. Indian Government air carrier Air India was only carrier which was allowed in this route , now this route can be used by other carrier as well which will end the monopoly of Air India on this route which will allow more competition and raise a probability for decrease in Air fares.
