I think they are as what they are being paid today is serious money and I think it is ridiculous.
No one is worth the money that they are being paid. Stars like Ronaldo and Messi are giants in their sport but why are they paid so much. The fans want them in their teams and the clubs want them for advertising revenue as well
They say you are worth what the market is prepared to pay for you and I think it has escalated out of control. In the English premiership new money was injected into the clubs through TV rights and pay per view. It wasn't little amounts either as clubs get a percentage of Billions over the next few years.
It has to come to an end soon and I can see capping coming into squad salaries similar to what has happened to the rugby teams.
They are INCREDIBLY overpaid, as are most entertainers
If we paid our top scientists, researchers, etc anywhere close to what these athletes or professional teams make, how much further advanced would we be?
If we devoted those types of salaries to helping the poor, the homeless, those affected by natural disaster or in need of health care, how much further ahead as a society would we be?
Instead we pay OUTRAGEOUS amounts of money to a few individuals gifted with the ability to entertain and then we pay even more to the television networks for subscriptions and PPV events. Not too mention what tickets to the event cost and of course merchandise. All so we can be entertained for a few hours at a time and forget our own lives.
Lets not forget these people started out playing a game they loved, they wanted to play and just happen to be good at. How many people can say that about their job? Maybe that you are good at it, but is it something you love? something you want to do/play?
So a few lucky individuals get to do what they want, play a game and make OUTRAGEOUS sums of money while contributing absolutely nothing to society in general other than what the ancient gladiators in the Roman Coliseum did? A few hours of entertainment for the screaming masses of the populace
If the demand placed on an individual by their job is used to measure what that individual or profession earns, then again they should not be earning what they do. Their are far more stressful, physically demanding jobs than putting on some pads and helmet once a week and banging into other people (yes I'm talking about American football).
They are paid way too much compared to what they give to society for me. I mean there are other fields and disciplines that do a lot to promote humanity and when i look at the amount of money these stars are paid, it could go a long way to achieve just that. You hear of someone earning millions of euros per month and you are marveled at his his annual icome per year when you punch your calculator.
All i csn ask myself is what do they give to society that merits such income? Entertaining the society and all that miney for wages/Salary? It is way too much and pretty ridiculous. Sometimes i am even forced to ask what they do with all that money but i guess it should be in a bank somewhere and some inveated in their properties and assets around the globe.
