I don't believe the relative rate is any different than it used to be. There are just more people now in the population and the openness of certain types of sexual immorality is more acceptable. If anything we may be tame compared to ancient Roman culture if we apply our concepts of sexual immorality to them.

The media tends to be a mirror of how society presents itself. The media calls it as it sees it and it wouldn't be doing what it is doing if there wasn't such a large demand.
