Music is magic, music is emotion #36: an ode to my family, Emmy Verhey

in #music7 years ago

Today a quite other post about music then you're perhaps used from me, but at the other side.. It still stay's music.
This post is about my aunt Emmy Verhey, she is a violinist and (if I may say so) famous all over the world for her violin playing.

Emmy had won the international Tsjaikovski-concours, a leading concours for classical music, at age 17 and was already playing from age 7. She was labeled 'prodigy' because of her virtuose playing. I recall the stories of my father that it was all about her in his youth because my grandparents we're pushing her for her playing (my grandfather was also a famous conductor). And that is what Emmy says herself also in interviews.. But despite all the things from the past she is a remarkable musician with a great gift of playing the violin.

I've been to several of her concerts in the past where the last one was in Zutphen when she played in our local concerthall. After her concert I met her in her dressing room to have a chat. Funny thing was that her violin was laying in a open box on table while I knew that was a Stradivarius, an instrument from 1723. Later on she bought a violin from the great Andrea Guarni, the violin was from the year 1676. Instruments with a rich history. Both priceless instruments.

In her whole career she has recorderd more then 55 albums and played all over the world with big orchestra's and classical celeberties.. So you can say she had quite some career.

For more background info, if you are interested, I can advise to visit her wikipedia page .

I leave you with three clips , one where she plays with Basily Popy Basily, a Gipsy Jazz trio. Where she proves she can play more than just classical :) in the second she plays on a instrument build by an audience member and she get's touched by the instrument, and she plays with the host (Paul de Leeuw) singing his song "Blijf bij Mij".

The last clip she plays a part of Ludwig von Beethoven..

This is all about emotion.

Have a great day !!
