There's 3 things to jump starting your career as a musician.

There are various factors to becoming an amazing and successful musician. I've chosen 3 that I think are key.

Craft

Obviously, we start with your sound. Whether you are a producer, rapper, singer or instrumentalist the aim of the game is to be UNIQUE. There is no point in trying to sound like Martin Garrix or one of the Migos. The world (and in some cases, unfortunately) already has them. In my country, we have a terrible case where all these young bedroom producers are trying to replicate the sounds of Kyle Watson and Chunda Munki. This results in all these kids being sour because they aren't getting booked or getting any attention on their Soundcloud pages. The way to get noticed is to bring something different to the table. Having said that, I'm not saying you're going to have chart topping hits when you sound like early Skrillex or anything that doesn't please the radio listeners. Radio is another ball game which I will probably post about in future.

Your craft is your money. Spend time on it, practice everyday. Don't publish every fart you come up with. The best way to come onto the scene is under the radar, and when it's ready you blow everyone away.

Image

Your image is probably the second most important factor to your success. It consists of the way you present yourself, your attitude, your lifestyle and the friends you keep. You're going to be meeting a lot of new people everyday and they'll have expectations of you. The first impression is the most important because they'll be going to their friends and telling them all about meeting you.

Ego plays a huge part here. Remain conscience of your actions, your words and always stay humble.

Following

Following and Image tie in together. In this day and age, social media is your platform to connect to your fans. Post pictures every second day of yourself, a sneak peak of a new track, anything that would interest your fans. Your social media pages are also where promoters will be looking to possibly book you. Be careful not to flood your pages as you become redundant and lose followers. It is crucial to stay away from negativity, if you come across a post from one of your haters, IGNORE IT.

The most important thing about your image, your following and your craft is to just BE YOURSELF.

I hope you found this post somewhat helpful. Please leave a comment with your thoughts.
