My first cassette tape was a strange soundgarden/pearl jam collab called temple of the dog. I was a poor kid then and it was on sale so i took a chance on it.

Other than Hunger Strike I don't know if anything on that album was any good, but that is a very interesting first album for sure. Unlike a lot of people, I never really appreciated Chris Cornell's (might have spelled that wrong) voice. I know he was more vocally gifted than say Kurt Cobain, Eddie Vedder, or Layne Stanley (again, probably misspelled at least one of those,) but out of the original Seattle scene, Soundgarden was my least favorite.
Yeah it takes a while for his voice to grow on you, though ed vedder's voice started getting really annoying later on after pearl jam's third album or so. These days i mostly skip vocal music all together. Instrumental is easier to work to while i have a pidcast playing along side a post rock instrumental album.

how about the soundtrack that Vedder did many years later for that movie Into the Wild ? That was pretty great too.
Sadly my roomate in college wore out that movie and song on me lol. It triggers me everytime i hear it now.
