Debutó en el año de 1995 con el álbum Pies descalzos colaborando con Luis Fernando Ochoa. Varios años después, siguió trabajando con Ochoa y lanzó su álbum ¿Dónde están los ladrones? en 1998, cuyo album obtuvo 16 millones de copias vendidas, siendo asi un éxito mundial dando a conocer el nombre "Shakira".
