Lusine (Live) w/ Natasha Kmeto and others - Seattle, WA

in #music6 years ago (edited)

I think we're figuring this thing out.

My company, Boundless Northwest finally had our first large concert. We gave ourselves a little too tight of a timeline to get advertising together, but we pulled through in an exceptional way. We didn't make our money back on this one, but we're really not expecting that for a while.

Thanks again to Doug Indrick, an awesome Seattle photographer that provided these photos after doing an assignment for a Seattle-based publication.

The Lineup

First, we had our good friend Jensen start it off. Jensen is a local Seattle DJ that has molded so well into every single event we hire him for, it feels like fate! He also played between every set, and it even seemed like he had fun too! On time every time, always with a big smile... he is a true star of any event we will throw.  https://soundcloud.com/jensen206/tracks

Second, we had our old friend Vision Field from Bellingham - and he brought along his drummer for a live performance! Not only was this incredibly special for us, but they killed it. Everyone loved their set, myself included, and it was a true honor to host someone like him. Do yourself a favor and give his music a listen!  https://www.facebook.com/visionfieldmusic/

Third, we had Portland singer and producer Natasha Kmeto! She's a hero in the Pacific Northwest, and continues to put out some of the most emotionally-driven and complex music in the area. Her live performances are full of power and everyone at our event was absolutely glowing after she ended. Truly not a performer to miss, ever.  https://www.facebook.com/natashakmeto/

Our Headliner was Lusine, a Seattle-based electronic musician with a very long and diverse discography/background. Part of Ghostly International (home to Phantogram, Com Truise, Matthew Dear, and many more), Lusine brought Seattle star drummer Trent Moorman for a unique live performance unlike anything I've seen before. The chemistry between these two was exceptional and truly inspiring. We're trying to get him back for another concert later this year, with another location added!  https://www.facebook.com/lusine.official/

Lessons Learned

Always ask the drummer if they have a kit they want to bring. Agencies and management will tell you one thing, but you're able to cut out over $250 in rentals if you just ask. Communication is key.

Second lesson, advertise and market your heart out. Get the fliers out there, do lots of posting on social media, create content, talk to people about it, spread it around workplaces. Everyone wants to help out someone they know, or just met. Just push it forward and keep it organic.

Secure sponsorships so you can easily bring larger talent without breaking the bank.

Next Moves

We're hosting a marketplace style event on 4/20 in a neighborhood called Ballard - from 1pm-5pm. It's a free event, and starts our series of marketplace events that focus on highlighting vendors of all kinds from around the region. Our first event features painters, jewelers, rocks and minerals, essential oils, chocolate, glass art and possibly photography prints! Plus some hip hop and smooth DJ performances, it'll be a fun event. Hosted at Copious, we work with the owners on their A/V production company on the side. It's good to keep working with the people you know, especially when you're all in the same industry!

We have a bunch of bookings in the confirmation phases, and we've sent out a ton of offers that we're waiting to hear back on. I'll be making another post soon with some video footage detailing what the day in a promoter's shoes looks like!

So now I'd like to hear from you. We're new to this, and we want to get better. Do you want more media content? Do you want more text? Do you want more formatting pieces to help our posts look better? Just let us know!
