As a vivid listener of EDM since around 2013, I have noticed that in recent years (2016-2018) EDM has gotten into a weird place. At first it was mixing more and more with pop and then the soundcloud rap wave came. So for the good past 2.5 years we've been getting this weird mix of EDM pop and rap which personally, I despised. Then what seemed like a nail to the coffin of EDM was the suicide of Avicii, someone who revolutionized the EDM scene and brought people like me into the genre. But with the year of 2019 rolling around, we started seeing more and more "clean" EDM. Some of examples could be GRYFFIN's songs blowing up one after another and Galantis and Passion Pit collab "I found u". What's worth a mention is Avicii's post-mortem album "TIM" which will most likely to bring back attention to EDM. With such a solid lineup for approaching summer, I believe we may see EDM getting back from its' knees and becoming the great EDM of 2013-2015 days.
