Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys wrote this song while depressed and contemplating life and death gazing at the ocean. Its mood is indescribable and is one of the most uniquely emotional songs I've ever heard. Put on a good pair of headphones or turn every distraction off and crank your hi-fi.
This was released late in 1971 and late in Brian Wilson's period of genius songwriting. It appeared on the album Surf's Up just before another brilliant song of his, the song "Surf's Up."

I saw Brian at his Pet Sounds 50th anniversary tour in Minneapolis last October. Not only one of the greatest musical geniuses ever, but a man with a kind heart.

He was great! I think the years took their toll on him considering everything he's been through. The band was flawless and just to be able to see Brian was magical :D

Nice post. I think Brian Wilson has written some of the most sophisticated pop-rock music out there. My appreciation for him grows the more I listen and learn about music.

When I was a child my parents loved the beach boys, but they listened to the more mainstream stuff like kokomo so I always wrote them off. As I've aged and heard more of their music I've gained a greater appreciation for them, they were so innovative for their time, thanks for posting!
