My love told me she would come tonight

in #music6 years ago (edited)

I have recently found this song and I just can't stop listening to it, I am captivated. It has somehow changed something very important in my life, the way I feel it, the way I interpret love. I was so happy that I found it on Youtube. Sometimes, when I thinnk of past times, I am not sure if those times were better when it comes to the question of availability of information. You know that feeling - you have heard some song, you don't know it's name, you hope you will someday hear it again. Time goes by, you forget about that piece of art that had moved you deeply and changed you, you forget that you'be been longing to hear it again. And suddenly, a strange set of circumstances arranges a new encounter. That moment feels like you found the most important thing in your life, you feel like you will explode in euphoria. Nowadays, you just click on Shazam and here you go.. you have the song you liked in a second or two. There is no waiting, wandering, searching, there are no dissapointments, and therefore - the euphoria and happiness are not as overwhelming and intensive. Of course, you feel happy, you enjoy the song as much as you want to, but that emotion which can occuer only after a long pursuit is taken away from you. Nevertheless, I honestly hope and think that this is compensated by the possibility to enjoy that song infinitely. Unless you replay it that much, that you quickly lose the first impression, in other words, you make the song "fade away" (a thing I tend to do very often).

I am talking about a song I've heard recently in one wonderful animated film during the great Belgrade festival of short animation film named Balkanima. I hope you are acquainted with this festival. You can find out more on this site - http://www.balkanima.org/
It usually takes place at the beginning of October and during the festival you can enjoy in a variety of short animations from all around the world. There are few competition programmes, I am very fond of the student films, made by my peers. The creativity and unbelievable stories (I always get confused and fascinated, questioning myself - how they thought such a crazy story up) - this is what inspires me for days after the festival.

Here is one of my most favourite films, I watched it on Balkanima three or four years ago https://www.shortoftheweek.com/2016/03/15/baths-laznia/

The introduction I made refers also to a kind of a sorrow about those films - unfortunatelu, many of them you can't find online and rewatch... And there are so many worth it.

Before I go to the song which made me write this, I want to pay your attention to the authentic visual identity of Balkanima. Here is a jingle made by @gorskigaleb

And finally, the song

I didn't find a lot about it, I think that the language, actually the dialect is Neapolitan. It is one of so-called "tarantella" songs, specific Italian folk songs named a spider species "tarantula". There is a legend which says that there were epidemics of tarantism in Italy. Tarantism is a state in which a person falls when bit by tarantula. The victim falls into trance. For this can be cured only by dancing, other people surround him and play music.
Somethin simmilar probably happened to me, because I am perfectly in love with this song and I find myself a bit hysteric - I must have heard it 100 times in last week, literally.

The text reminded me of the Song of Songs. The beloved one is compared with nature. The lover addresses all the people around him asking them to listen to his love song - just as the Sulamith tells the daughters of Jerusalem not to awaken her love.
My favourite part is the moment when he has no more meaningful word and just sings La ni la ni ni na la nininena.
It's just... I don't know, I have a vivid picture in my head of a small Mediteranean town, the sea and the bright air. The lover wanders around and he cannot stand the joy and excitement, because that night, her beloved one will come to him.
