lol! Our first tapes couldn't be more different. 3 of my favorite songs when I was around 8 were "Friends", "Freaks Come Out At Night" and "Big Mouth". So my first tape was Escape, by Whodini:
I remember people thought I was weird because I had the audacity to love rock and rap at the same time. And pop as well. I was never much of a music snob like some of the other kids.
Whodini was definitely my favorite as a little kid though. I think I got into them because my sister used to run around the house 'rapping' their songs all day and I looked up to her, even though she treated me like crap most of the time. But that's how it is when you're siblings, I guess.
I had a similar relationship with my older sister. We actually would have "banned songs" for the other person. Songs that were "ours" that the other person was not permitted to listen to. It's funny between us now.
I went through a rap phase in middle school with groups like Public Enemy, NWA, and Pharside but returned to metal in high school. I still like all different types of music, but metal is the top.
I just watched "Freaks come out at Night" and that made me laugh. Pretty dated rap style and I liked the dancing mixed in. Very 80's. haha
Haha, yep they are pretty much one of the first rap groups ever. Sounds pretty funny now, but it seemed super cool to me back then. Actually, a lot of groups in the 90s and beyond sampled them a lot.
I also went back and forth a lot. As we talked about before, I was a Metallica fan but I mostly liked their more ballady stuff like One and Nothing Else Matters type songs. I like metal but it has to have contrast - I don't really like the stuff that just screeches for 10 minutes if you know what I mean.
I like the shouty metal also though. It's my fav...but I know what you mean
