Hello dear steemians !
Today i want to represent you few songs that i'm listening these days and try to share with you why are they so special for me.
There are many beautiful song in this world and i am one of those people always open for new type of music, that usually comes with different cultures. I'm sure i will post more about music on this blog, but for this first time i have chosen five songs that always make me feel stunning turnover of emotions. These songs remind me of dear people and they life stories, remind me of some periods of my growing up and friendships, love and joy that life brings, but also remind me of tears and sorrow.
1. Don't cry for me Argentina by Elaine Paige
This powerful and emotional performance by Elaine is my favorite, even though it happened many years after her first performance in 1978, in musical Evita. For composer Andrw Webber and writer Tim Rice, inspiration was Argentina political leader Eva Peron. According to Eva love for her country, many people have found themselves in this song and felt undeniable patriotism.
My uncle introduce me this song, following a story about his father. During the Second World War a very young man (my uncles father) left his motherland Serbia and never again came back. So, when he heard this song for the first time, he was entirely shot in sorrow and longing for his country. As a song says the truth is i never left you, that was a hard feeling for a man on the other continent, far away from his Serbian village, his parents, sisters and happy life destroyed by war. You can always start your life from the beginning, be happy again, but the place where you were born and raised, your home, your people, they stay forever deep in your heart and memory, no matter where the life takes you.
2. Piano played by Yiruma
Lee Ru-ma, or better known for his stage name Yiruma is a South Korean pianist and composer. Usually his music is classified as pop classical and Yiruma as a new age artist, even though he does not declares himself like that. For me, his music is inspiring, very gentle and "colorful". I enjoy every time listening to piano notes, just the way he made them. I highly recommend his music, also to those who doesn't like classics. I'm sure you will enjoy in every moment, just play it no matter how your mood is.
3. U lijepom starom gradu Višegradu by Himzo Polovina
This Bosnian singer was born in Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes and has died in Yugoslavia; that is interesting for those who know situation on Balkan, long time ago that was one soul, today is hard to believe. But the main point is song - it is about love between two and one beautiful city in Bosna and Hercegovina, with his strong historical background. For me, everything started with Ivo Andrić book Na drini ćuprija (eng. The bridge on the Drina; i think my friend @srba wrote about it) and particularly for this song when i heard it for the first time in the theater. That was two years ago, when i was watching a play Na drini ćuprija in Serbian National Theater in Novi Sad. I sincerely recommend that play, if it's still playing. A book and song are connected in one thing and that is Višegrad city with his tragic history, with death and reborn of the city, with lost lives and loves. Those who know a bit of Serbian national history and, of course for those who read the book, probably know what i want to say. Anyway, you can enjoy in that traditional Bosnian folk sound named sevdalinka.
4. Il tempo se ne va by Adriano Celentano
This very popular Italian singer recorded a following single in 1980.A song is about father who faces a growing up of his fourteen years old daughter, with her first going out, boyfriend and angrily teenage behavior. That all, is said in one funny and gentle way, through adorable sound of his voice and Italian language. This song and other songs of Celentano make me feel beautiful, happy and nostalgic in the same way. I think those are the feeling that follow me while i'm listening any of my Italian gorgeous voices. :)
5. The blower's daughter by Damien Rice
Damien Rice is an Irish singer and songwriter of almost all his songs. I feel free to say that, his music is a music of my very young youth (or adolescence). I think, that rebellious voice inside very young me, felt silent and free while listening to his music. It would be good that more people in Serbia know about his work, because it's very good; he's just one of those good trees hidden in the forest.
I really hope you enjoyed reading my post! :)
Pozdrav!
