Bob Rivers – “The Girl with Emphysema”
“The Girl with Emphysema” (2013)
In this excellent parody of the 1960s bossa nova song “The Girl from Ipanema,” Bob Rivers mocks those who are addicted to the unhealthy, filthy, and disgusting habit of smoking tobacco.*
As stated in an earlier post, the original “Girl from Ipanema,” was “a golden teenage girl” who personified “a gift of life.”
An Aura of Smelly Smoke
Unlike that golden girl from Ipanema, this “Girl with Emphysema” is a pale and sickly girl with yellow teeth, enveloped in a stinking cloud of smoke. Not very alluring.

Bob Rivers is a retired US radio personality who is well known for his creation and recording of parody and novelty songs.
Whole Lotta Zeppelin
Rivers started working in radio while still in high school, and got his first paying gig when he was 16. Apparently he was fired from that post for playing too many Led Zeppelin songs. He continued to work, on the east coast, and soon started writing parody songs.
In 1989, he moved to Seattle, where he achieved widespread critical acclaim over a 25-year career.
He was twice named the “Rock Personality of the Year” by Radio and Records. He also won the “Peoples Chocie Award” 3 times for the “Best Minute of the Year in Seattle Radio.” (Image source) Short and pale and thin and sicklyThe girl with emphysema keeps smoking
And when she passes she flicks her ashes
And goes ... [cough! cough!] When she smokes she's like a chimney
That shoots up clouds and smells so nasty
That when she passes she passes gas
And goes ... [cough! cough! fart!] Oh, but she wants to quit badly
Coughing up big chunky lung guts
Yes, she would give them up gladly
But each day when she has to go pee
She sits on the can and lights three Short and pale and thin and sickly
The girl with emphysema goes smoking
And when she passes she smiles with big yellow teeth Oh, but the room is so smoky
How can she tell where she's going?
Yeah, she would give them up gladly
But each day when she has to go pee
She sits on the can and lights three Short and pale and thin and sickly
The girl with emphysema goes smoking
Then she flashes that smile with big yellow teeth
And gunk underneath
She just cannot breathe
It's only a wheeze Can I have a light, please? “Astrud Gilberto / Stan Getz” – The Girl from Ipanema

Hi @majes.tytyty
JAJAJA I've been able to laugh a lot about this song because of its humorous smoke.
I have never smoked any kind of cigarettes. a question the original song is not from Frank Sinatra?
Nope, not Frank.
Coincidentally, I had published a previous post about the origins of the song "The Girl From Ipanema." https://steemit.com/music/@majes.tytyty/the-girl-from-ipanema-by-astrud-gilberto-stan-getz-steemitcentral-lyrics-challenge-day-59-60
P.s. Do NOT start smoking!! Ever.
I really enjoy listening to this song today, and the lyrics make a lot of meaning.
Thanks for this funny track, I love it.
I would love you to check my newly published song.

LOL. I know several girls like that and they deserve to have this song sent to them! I didn't know it, but I think it's great and a good way to point out smoke addicts. The girl's voice is good, but the cough is a creative and hilarious resource. Good. Ah, good thing you quit smoking. Greetings!
I love the way he makes a mockery of smokers. His parody of the bossa nova classic is witty and truly hilarious.
You made me laugh with this song! Although I know the subject is very serious, the parody was unique. I like it when they version well-known songs and good pieces come out, like this one. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you like it. Just by researching / writing for this series, I've already found so much great music that I never knew existed. Such as this Bob Rivers and his brilliant and scathing parodies.
I post these "MOCK'n'ROLL" bits about once a week, so I hope you find them. Also, the "COVER VERSIONS" series presents lots of interesting and unique reinterpretations of various tunes. Hope you find them interesting too!
Cheers. Keep listening and keep laughing!
Congratulations @majes.tytyty!
