eMusicTalx - Internal Workflow? & The Regional Music Contest

in #music7 years ago (edited)

I bet every producer has their own way of doing things, and so should you.
This is a nice little post about my own experiences in regards to workflows and what I have gotten out of it.
In the series of Workflow I will be talking about Internal Workflow and External Workflow.
This post will be about Internal Workflow.
What I mean by Internal Workflow is that it is the guidelines you can have made up for your self to have a unique style and have your own way of working.
The Internal Workflow is only based on one's own thoughts in regards to the workflow.
Also, here's a link to my newest preview;

READERS WARNING
I'm pretty dank tight now, so there might be some complications with the grammar lol

Internal Workflow

Working with sound can be super hard, hell, it can even be frustrating, so it is kind of important to have some cool tricks in the pocket, so that you can either get inspired, or working by it even.
If you play any instruments, I assume you know the tendency one has, to play in-over some other music, thus having some sort of one-man jam session.
That alone is a good thing, because it helps you play in different scales in a different style and furthermore leaves one with a good ear for playing with others.
All those things can be used for a lot of other things, because the essential properties of those abilities are more or less fundamental for producing, let alone mixing.
What I am trying to say is having to produce a track is requiring very much of an individual's concentration, so it is a nice thing to have some backup plans and a more concrete guideline up the sleeve.
Try to set up a few rules for your self, without limiting your self.
Remember, music is never always by the book, and not every thing is intentionally put all the time.
I am not going to say what the concrete guideline is to having a kick ass workflow, since it is only subjectively worked within my self in the way I do it.
But what I can do, however, is telling about my own experiences, and what I have gained from it.
Here is a nice example; working under pressure has certain effects on the outcome of things.
For instance, having to complete a task in a matter of a few hours or minutes or seconds puts one to work quick as hell right?
But does that have an effect on you in a positive way when you compose music?
To the blind eye, it might appear, that it will be kinda sloppy.
But then again does it?
I was attending class, and my teacher wanted us to join in on a thing she called "30 Minute Challenge".
Like the name she chose indicates, she wanted us to make a track in 30 minutes , no more, no less.
And I shit you not my dudes and dudettes, the beat I made sounded pretty fucking good.
Better than I expected, better than it usually does and with a nice touch of a still undiscovered side of the universe and level of producing that I thought I was in, it that is due to the time pressuring me, and me being risky instead of stressing.
And boooooi did that pay of.
The track first won an entrance to a local contest at my former town, then I lost, but it got qualified though!
Then, just recently, the track that I made even won me 2nd place at my school's audition concert, thus making my track qualification to the big leagues, where I am going to compete against the regional music conservatory as well as university students whom studies music.
I will be playing at the House Of Music In Aalborg, Denmark 24th of November, under the name of Assad btw.
Normally I don't like putting things in boxes in regards to music, but for the sake of simplicity I will here below list the essential workflow points that I have highlighted very so discretely in this long ass text.

Workflow Goldpoints

  • Apply your own norms
  • Exit comfortzone
  • Take the chance
  • Jam to other music/ with friends
  • Believe in your self <3

The track has been remade one more time since I played at the concert, but the link to the original is here if you want to give it a listen.

I hope you guys could use this for something, next time I will be talking about External Workflow.

PLEASE DONATE & SUPPORT BY UPVOTING

I have to say it is not cheap with all those music classes and because my government does not support my kind of school I will have to pay for it on my own, therefore, contributions will be greatly appreciated
All donation will go towards music equipment and for school tutoring.
