My Top 10 best Hip Hop albums of 2017

What better way to reflect on 2017´s music scene than remember the most impactful rap albums of this past year. 

                                  

This list is completely opinionated and only contains albums ive personally listened to.

And before I start, id like to make an honorable mention to:

 4:44 by Jay-z because even if ive personally never been a Jigga fan, I appreciate the art and his amazing contribution to the culture.

Now, lets start.

10. West 1996 Pt.2 - Lute

I was surprised to like Lute´s debut studio album so much. it just has so much of a simple essence that calls back to the OG days, and even tho its hard to explain, I cant deny I like it and I expect more from him.

Favorite track: Git Up feat GQ Slaughter

9. The Autobiography - Vic Mensa

This project clearly has a lot of dedication and emotion put into it, and shows why Vic Mensa is one of the most slept on rappers currently. From very upbeat songs to hard bars over a dark beat, the man has it all.

Favorite track: Heaven on Earth feat. The Dream

8. 17 - XXXTENTACION

As K.dot said on twitter, this album is raw thoughts and emotions. It reflects the mind of a broken man, and has a lot of depth to it. But what i find the most interesting is the shift in X´s musical style for this album, that led him to go from a Screamo-type rap, to very R&B chill. Its something different.

Favorite track: Fuck Love feat. Trippie Redd

7. SATURATION - BROCKHAMPTON

Its a very odd album, from a group I didnt have on my radar. Still, Brkhmptn certainly broke all expectations releasing 3 hit albums just this year. I had to pick Saturation I because of the clear versatility standard they set for the rest of their career. 

Favorite track: STAR

6. Flower Boy - Tyler, the Creator

Theres not much to say. More of the randomness Tyler always provides that somehow always comes together to form masterpieces. I see Flower Boy as a window into his mind, and I cant say I dont enjoy whatever is going on in there.

Favorite track: Pothole feat. Jaden Smith

5. Everybody - Logic

I love Logic. Hes one of my top rappers of all time. But I put Everybody on nr.5 because of the central lack of essence it has. I love the songs and his style as usual, but for an album about diversity, there wasnt much diversity int he topic. Like others, I find he focused way too much on the fact that hes biracial and led the whole album on just that. Still, extremely enjoyable. 

Favorite track: AfricAryaN feat. neil deGrasse Tyson

4. SYRE - Jaden Smith

I didnt expect any of this to happen. But I am extrenely impressed, and I need more. SYRE might not be the best album lyrically, but its just a musical masterpiece thanks to its beautiful production. Its weird to say im a fan of Jaden Smith.

Favorite track: Ninety

3. (508) 507 2209 - Joyner Lucas

Although I dont sympathize with Joyner´s personality and how he behaves, I cant deny my love for his music. His rapping style, his lyrical goodness, his production and even his remixes. Everything Joyner has been putting out has me pumped, and I hope to see more from him soon.

Favortie track: Ultrasound

2. I Decided. - Big Sean

I think this is Big Sean at his prime. He showed why hes one of the MCs still in the game who nobody should fuck with. From amazing synergy in features, to just being an overall badass, Sean had me on this album the whole year. And not to mention to best feature of the year in my opinion, that showed my Eminem can still pack a punch when he wants to.

Favorite track: No Favors feat. Eminem

1. DAMN. - Kendrick Lamar

Here we are. The nr.1 album of the year for most people, I can only describe DAMN. as the pure essence of Hip Hop. It would be dumb to name every single thing that makes this such a great album and shows my K.Dot is one of the top players in the game, so my best advice is for you to just listen to it. 

Favorite track: DUCKWORTH.
