There’s only one thing to remember and it’s that the DAW and plugins doesn’t matter. Spend no money or $1,000: there’s still potential to make good music.
Meet Centralbeats, a producer in LMMS. His work is amazing, despite the fact he uses a free DAW (yes I am aware he uses higher quality paid synths, but seeing his work is truly inspiring.

Another person I think is awesome and inspiring is Nexus Music. He’s made brilliant music in GarageBand and has awesome tutorials.

I have personal experience with free software (I’m not allowed to pay for anything), and I’ve gotten used to it. In the end, I think it turned out decently. For example, I’ve been able to use GarageBand in various quirky ways to get unique sounds that would be hard to obtain otherwise.
