For my first release as a solo artist, I wanted to make an impact not only with the quality of my music but with the medium I release it in. Using equipment from a local TV station, I devised a 360 virtual reality video shot in a friend's basement. For both the song and video, my aim was to simulate the feeling of alienation and loneliness that can come from our dependence on social media friendships and interactions.
My friend's parents' collection of ancient desktop computers and the ambience of basement lighting contributed to the environment I was trying to create. Continually, I aim to create art with minimal pretense or overworking, choosing spaces or objects that are already evocative to me and then incorporating them directly into my work. Let me know what you think of this piece and any ideas for how virtual reality technology could be integrated into Steem!
