Synesthesia Review: Denzel Curry - TA13OO

in #music6 years ago

Denzel Curry has been around for quite some time and finally delivers an album worthy of separating him from the rest of the others from the "SoundCloud" era.

He's able to cut through the noise, because unlike most SoundCloud rappers, Denzel can actually rap. He's capable of delivering the hardest verses over instrumentals that sound as though they're about to explode outta the speakers and take shape. He's also a very capable writer and brings true emotion to music; something not often associated with the sub-genre.

He tackles many subjects on the album. The most striking being suicide of the amply titled CLOUT COBAIN. There's references made about suicide throughout, but here it's on full display. There's also the political onslaught of SIRENS that features J.I.D at he's finest. The other standout track is the club ready SUMO. The exploration of the dark side of life is found throughout with little positives being highlighted.

The opener TABOO sets the tone for the album perfectly, showing that he's more than capable of conveying a message in he's music that's more than just about money and drugs. The album as whole is a breeze to listen to, especially with it being split into 3 parts. He's blend of fire flame bars with pop hooks and in some cases metal influences means that Denzel will outlast the rest of the rappers he's unfortunately been lumped with.

While it probably won't be listed among 2018's finest, it'll definitely be on rotation as it has replay value attached to it. Well done kid.
