Hi music lovers steemiters, welcome to another post of "Knowing Artists" Series!! Today I want to introduce Ivan lins, a very important Brazilian musician.

Son of the military Geraldo Lins, was very influenced by diverse musical genres like jazz, bossa nova and soul [1] and has like main instrument the piano, that has played since the 18 years. He graduated in industrial chemistry in the late 1960s, when he began his musical career at festivals. The song O Amor É My País, mistakenly branded as a fan, was ranked second consecutive in the V International Song Festival. The first success as a composer was with Madalena, recorded by Elis Regina.

Hired by the record company Forma / Philips (which later became Polygram until arriving at the current name Universal Music) by the then producer, the composer Paulinho Tapajós, records three discs by the seal: Now, Let the train follow and Who am I? In that period, he composed songs with Ronaldo Monteiro de Souza, but later had in Vítor Martins the most frequent partner. The first composition between the two took place when the fourth LP, Free Mode, was released by RCA (later BMG, then Sony BMG and now Sony Music), which would also release the subsequent album, Flame On. In that same decade he released some albums that projected him nationally.

He had countless hits as a singer like Abre Alas, We are all the same tonight and to start again - all in partnership with Vítor Martins. Starting again was recorded by Simone the same year it was composed. In her voice, was played as the official theme of the opening of the show Malu Woman, becoming a great success of the time and a milestone in the history of MPB.

He has released numerous albums, many of them very successful, having changed record companies several times. During the 70's, the work gains a great political theme. From the second half of the 80's, he began to emphasize his international career, especially in the United States, where he was re-recorded by numerous international music stars such as Quincy Jones, George Benson, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and Barbra Streisand.

He was a composer, having songs recorded by consecrated names such as Elis Regina (Cartomante, Madalena, To Our Children), Simone (Beginning of New), Quarteto Em Cy (Open Wings), Gal Costa (Roda Baiana), Jane Duboc And Body, To Our Children) Zizi Possi (Guardian Devil) and Emílio Santiago (Velas Embraced). He ran a television program on Rede Globo alongside Gonzaguinha and Aldir Blanc, Som Livre Exportação. He was married to singer and actress Lucinha Lins, with whom he had a son, the singer and actor Cláudio Lins. Cheer for Fluminense Football Club.

Still a member of the post-dictatorship, he sang, although with a small individual participation, in the chorus of the Brazilian version of We are the world, the American hit that raised funds for Africa or USA for Africa. The Northeast project already (1985), embraced the cause of the Northeastern drought, joining 155 voices in a compact, of collective creation, with the songs Coming of sorrow and Seca d'água. Praised by the competence of the individual interpretations, it was nevertheless criticized for the inability to harmonize the voices of the framing of each of them in the chorus.

In 1991, with the friend and partner Vítor Martins, founded the label Velas. This record company, totally national and independent, was yet another attempt to make room for forgotten Brazilian singers in multinational record labels and for the emergence of new values in the popular songbook. Names like Chico César, Lenine and Guinga had great support of this recorder to be able to begin the artistic careers. This record company also released albums of names already enshrined in the music, such as Zizi Possi (the highly praised Brazilian Waltz), Fátima Guedes (Heart of Louca, one of the pioneers of the label, besides Great Time, For a good understanding ... and Very intense), works Posthumous by Elis Regina (Elis Regina in the Fine of Bossa, Elis Vive, Elis Regina live), and others. In 1995, he recorded the song "Remembrance of Me", a theme from Manoel Carlos's novel "História de Amor", which is a huge success.

Ivan Lins is the author of the soundtrack for the films Dois Córregos e Bens Confiscados by Carlos Reichenbach and won the Best Soundtrack Prize at the third Luso-Brazilian Festival Santa Maria da Feira. He is also one of the most recorded Brazilian composers abroad and has already been nominated for a Grammy Award. He also released a tribute to the Poet of the Village, Noel Rosa (Viva Noel, 1997), which had many special guest appearances and also released A New Time (1999), with only Christmas songs.

Five years later, came the CD Singing Stories, which brings re-recordings of the old successes and counted on the special participations of Jorge Vercilo, Simone and Zizi Possi. Two years later, came Acariocando (2006), only with unpublished songs. At the end of 2007, Ivan Lins released the Saudades de Casa CD and DVD, with various collaborations, recorded in a studio in Rio de Janeiro.
