The pop star Demi Lovato has been hospitalized after an alleged drug overdose and she's finally awake and getting better bit by bit. The singer told the world that she had relapsed back in June with her extremely personal and emotional track "Sober". The supportive and positive thoughts, prayers, videos have been really amazing and even her family has thanked everyone for them, but what was shocking to me going through comments and just trying to read and listen to the opinions of as many people as possible, is that quite a few were filled with hatred and negativity. Some saying she sold her soul, she needs to repent to God, others arguing that she already has everything and are disappointed in their role model, who they looked up to since they were very young.
Honestly, a drug addiction is one of the hardest things people, especially in the entertainment world, deal with. It's not something to be taken lightly and yes, you can argue that nobody forced the drugs into her system, it was her choice etc. and while that is true, you're not even trying to see the bigger picture. The pressure of trying to please everyone, of being a perfect role model to people of all ages can be quite overwhelming. Just the fact that she managed to stay sober for such a long while, for 6 years, is extremely commendable and let's hope she falls back into sobriety when she will recover fully.
Demi was a child star who had a very rocky transition into adulthood, but managed to stand up and be proud of who she is and try to not repeat her mistakes and teach others. You can't condemn a person for falling back to their old habits if they crack under the pressure and fall into a downwards spiral, while they suffer from depression, anxiety and in her case, bipolar disorder. A lot of people are forgetting celebrities are human, that they have ups and downs just like everybody else. Spreading those horrible comments when a person is hospitalized and had the possibility of dying is vile.
We should stay supportive and hope that Demi recovers and follows the path that's going to allow her to rise even stronger than before.
