Pink Floyd is an English rock band, founded in 1965 in Cambridge, England, known for its psychedelic and progressive rock compositions, philosophical lyrics, sound experimentation, innovative album covers, and lavish live performances. One of the most successful rock groups ever. It is estimated that approximately 74.5 million of their albums in the US and over 200 million albums are sold all over the world.
Pink Floyd began his formation as a young rock band in 1964, although it was called "Sigma 6", "The Meggadeaths" and "The Abdabs" at that time. However, the band resigns, and guitarist Rado "Bob" Klose, bassist Roger Waters, drummer Nick Mason and Rick Wright (blowing instruments) set up a new set called "Tea Set".
Syd Barrett joined in 1965. He began writing most of the pieces and orienting the group to psychedelic rock.
The band's name was made up of Syd Barret by Pinko Anderson and Floyd Council, two blues musicians from Georgetown, from Barrett's music collection.
Surrealistic texts and experimental electronic effects have set up a group in the British epicenter of psychedelic rock, but still with moderate success.
After Barrett began to show signs of mental illness due to drug use, the group replaced him in 1968 with guitarist David Gilmoure. Over time, the band leader became their bass guitarist, Roger Waters, and a dozen and a major songwriter. Under his leadership the group recorded the most important albums and achieved world success.
Thanks to their innovative musical style and brilliant live performance scenarios, they became the most comical group with a unique, unique sound, which is primarily reflected in their 1979 rock opera "The Wall".
The group is best known for their albums The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977) and conceptual The Wall (1979).
In 1979, Richard Wright left the group, followed by Roger Waters in 1985. Gilmour, Mason and Wright, after a brief court dispute, reached an out-of-court settlement with Waters, allowing them to continue performing and publishing under the same name.
Their latest studio album was released in 2014 - The Endless River.
David Gilmour told the Italian "La Repubblica" magazine that Pink Floyd members would no longer perform, but dedicate themselves to their solo career.
In July 2005, a group, including Roger Waters, performed at London's Live 8 Concert. All members of the group once again met in May 2007 at a concert held in London in memory of Syd Barrett. Then Roger Waters performed separately from the remaining three members of the group.
On September 15, 2008, 65-year-old pianist Pink Floyd Richard Wright died at age 65.
On July 10, 2010 in Kidlington, England David Gilmour and Roger Waters performed together at a charity concert for the Hoping Foundation, which collects resources to improve the lives of children in Palestine. Nearly two hundred visitors had unexpectedly performed four songs, three of which were the "classic" of Pink Floyd. In return for Waters' appearance, Gilmour agreed to cast "Comfortably Numb" on the European part of the Waters tour "The Wall".
November 7, 2014 David Gilmour and Nick Mason are the only members of Pink Floyd releasing the latest studio album The Endless River. Gilmour claims that this is a definitive end to Pink Floyd, because he thinks the next attempt would be to pose for second-rate material.
Their music influenced other musicians such as David Bowie, Genesis, The Nazz, Queen, Phish, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Yes. It is considered one of the most commercially successful and influential rock groups in the history of rock and music at all. VH1 has placed them on the 15th place of the list of 100 of the greatest hard rock artists in history and ranked 18th in its list of 100 greatest artists of all time, and Rolling Stone ranked 51th in its list
