It's Friday and there's new releases to be heard. This is my 3 favourites from today that you should listen to 👂I wish you all a great weekend!
Sharon Van Etten - Epic Ten
This is a interesting re-listen to Sharon Van Etten's Epic album from 2010. Epic is full of fantastic songs and it's interesting to hear artists like Fiona Apple, Lucinda Williams and IDLES cover them.
The Drums - Mommy Don't Spank Me
Spring reverb-drenched indie pop songs? Yes please! It's quite obvious that this is a album of B-sides. Some songs sound almost unmixed, others have weird bad edits. But still - if you like surf pop, The Beach Boys and good vibrations then this should brighten your weekend anyway.
Vijay Iyer, Linda May Han Oh, Tyshawn Sorey - Uneasy
Vijay Iyer has done a new beautiful album which is out today. The interplay in the trio is great and I really like Iyer's playing style. He plays forcefully, but with hesitation - like he's never satisfied with his own ideas and are always going in different directions. Like in this piece "Children Of Flint". The dynamics and sounds feels almost static, but they are constantly expanding and pulling in the emotion of the piece. Vijay Iyer reminds me a little bit of the early Chick Corea albums, although not as rough. I'm a little tired of the ECM sound on this though, I would have loved to hear it dryer and without as much volume automation.
Hope your weekends may be full of music, and if you have any tips for new music let me know!
My Scandinavian Indie playlist 🎵:
Vijay Iyer is AWESOME. I really love his trio stuff, and recently checked out the album with his Sextet, which is great.
Yay! 🤗
