Bandcamp Recap I - Macelleria Mobile Di Mezzanotte | Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah | Snowdrops

in #music7 years ago

Three albums on Bandcamp I've been listening to lately that absolutely deserve wider attention, so here we go:

1.MACELLERIA MOBILE DI MEZZANOTTE - "HIVER NOIR" (2017)

Knipsel MMM.JPG
Style: #doomjazz
Released: nov.5 2017
Guitar – Manuele Frau | Piano, Bass, Noises, Synth – Riccardo Chiaretti | Saxophone – Pierluigi Ferro | Synthesizer, Drum Programming, Producer, Effects – Lorenzo Macinanti | Synthesizer, Vocals, Sampler – Adriano Vincenti

Tracks:
1.Taiga 06:28
2.Baikal Lake 06:32
3.Last Kiss By The Volga 04:05
4.Az Vozdam 05:18
5.Submisyvnyi Jazz (Pivnik U Kyevi) 09:07
6.Pered Snegopadom 04:35
7.Hiver Noir 18:43

As the album title already suggest, this is music for late winter nights when it’s freezing and cold outside. But don’t expect any uplifting, cosy music from this italian ‘funeral-jazz’ outfit (originally a trio but now a 5-piece) . The atmosphere here paints in black and only hues surrounding this colour. Recommended for fans of slow-paced dark soundscapes fused with smokey underground jazz. Think of Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks, David Lynch), Bohren Und Der Club Of Gore or Dale Cooper Quartet & The Dictaphones.

This is Christian’s final album of the 2017 Centennial Trilogy (”Ruler Rebel” and “Diaspora” are the other two releases), a celebration of 100 years of jazz recordings. Once more ít’s a very compelling album by one of the greatest jazz talents around these days. This is modern Jazz from the book (if there is any ?). Oh….did I mention that Christian, besides an excellent composer, is a fabulous trumpeter ?

3.SNOWDROPS - "LIVE AT THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL CRYPT OF PARIS" (2017)

Knipsel snowdrops.JPG
Style: #soundscapes #ambient
Released: oct.5 2017
Christine Ott & Mathieu Gabry : Ondes Martenot, Ondomo, Keyboards, Soundscapes

Tracks:
1.Scene VII 02:26
2.Scene VIII 02:52
3.Scene IX 03:04
4.Scene X 04:21
5.Scene XI 03:59
6.Scene XII 05:36

If you are not familiar with the exquisite sound of the “Ondes-Martenot”, one of the earliest (1928!!) electronic musical instruments, then you should listen to this short but beautiful live recording by Snowdrops. Played by Christine Ott (and accompanied by soundscapes of Mathieu Gabry) the instrument’s eerie, wavering notes create a journey beyond time and space, even far beyond the fitting space of the archaeological crypt in Paris.
