What happened to the many thousands of other draftees? Did they all desert? Why does no one even try to find out? Perhaps the problem is that most of the other draftees were over-age and/or disabled (like Mulan's father), and army commanders decided there was no point in using them.
- The size of the army unit led by Li Shang (in which Mulan serves) seems to vary from several hundred to just a handful of men, depending on the needs of the plot.
