GodWaves Radio: Leadership in The Bible

Whom Do You Follow?

Dear Friends,

As some of my listeners may know, I grew up in East Germany.

The political system there was communist. Communism is a religion. The God of the Bible was frowned upon. People who believed in the Lord where seen as handicapped.

I was raised by atheists. God was hated. The gods of the Central Committee leaders were worshipped instead.
Their gods have died.
My God lives.

One of the earliest memories I have about not fitting in well with the group think/don't think, collective Soviet era pre destined DO AS WE SAY is this little episode.

It was in third grade.
Our teacher asked us for weekend homework to name our hero(s). The assignment: write an essay to justify our choice. I thought about it in school and couldn't come up with anyone that afternoon.

Later, over the weekend at home, I got frustrated when I realized that I admired none. Not a football (soccer player) nor a party leader. Not any musician - not even my father, or anyone else I knew.

My "failure" to name a role model was not well received. Globo, the gray sheep went dark and became the black sheep of the family. I still am.

Only much later in life, after I became a Christian, did it dawn on me. Sure, these days I have some people I can admire for their courage, their skills, their tenacity, their morals. However, man will fail us. Even the human heroes of the bible (a great selection of them is listed in the Hall of Fame of Faith in Hebrews 11).

What does God say to us about trusting (in) man?

Psalm 146:3 (KJV 1900)
3 Put not your trust in princes,
Nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.

Psalm 118:9 (KJV 1900)
9 It is better to trust in the LORD
Than to put confidence in princes.

Isaiah 2:22 (KJV 1900)
22 Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils:
For wherein is he to be accounted of?

Psalm 33:16–20 (KJV 1900)
16 There is no king saved by the multitude of an host:
A mighty man is not delivered by much strength.
17 An horse is a vain thing for safety:
Neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.
18 Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him,
Upon them that hope in his mercy;
19 To deliver their soul from death,
And to keep them alive in famine.
20 Our soul waiteth for the LORD:
He is our help and our shield.

Galatians 1:10 (KJV 1900)
10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

Jeremiah 17:5 (KJV 1900)
5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.

Isaiah 31:1–3 (KJV 1900)
1 Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help;
And stay on horses,
And trust in chariots, because they are many;
And in horsemen, because they are very strong;
But they look not unto the Holy One of Israel,
Neither seek the LORD!

2 Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil,
And will not call back his words:
But will arise against the house of the evildoers,
And against the help of them that work iniquity.

3 Now the Egyptians are men, and not God;
And their horses flesh, and not spirit.
When the LORD shall stretch out his hand,
Both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is holpen shall fall down,
And they all shall fail together.

Proverbs 28:26 (KJV 1900)
26 He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool:
But whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

Hebrews 13:8 (KJV 1900)
8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

That said, there is nothing wrong with drawing inspiration and energy from people we look up to. As long as we refrain from making people our gods, as long as we recognize that there is only one man, Jesus, Son of God, who was perfect in all His ways, we are safe to learn from those fellow humans - from their successes and their failures.

We shall look at Leaders in the Bible and listen to stories around them. Let's is look at their achievements. Let us also acknowledge: they could only realize their accomplishments with God's help through that faith they placed in God.

In this series, we will look at

  • Abraham
  • Daniel
  • David
  • Deborah
  • Esther
  • Jesus
  • John the Baptist
  • Joseph
  • Moses
  • Nehemiah
  • Noah
  • Paul
  • Peter
  • Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and
  • Solomon.

Job 28:28
The Fear of the Lord is wisdom.

Remember Your Defenses !

The Armor of God:

Ephesians 6:10–18 (KJV 1900)
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Don't be caugt off-guard by the enemy. Equip yourself. Be pepared.

Not even 10 o'clock, and I'm already crying. But, wait...I'm confused. The post says God Waves is on at Noon, Central Time, but later in the post, it says God Waves airs at 3pm Central Time. It does air at Noon CST, right?
I will be listening intensely. I need to hear the message.

CORRECTED Jane. Thanks! It's 12 Central.
