What is your favorite movie (and why is it Top Gun)

I am a big movie fan, my favorite movie is probably Top Gun with Gladiator a close second. I have probably seen Top Gun at least 25 times and once in German.

I have actually seen the F-14 up close and it is far less impressive than it is in the movies. They actually sit in the hangers with buckets under them to catch leaking fluids. With that said, it was a beast in the sky.

If you have any interest in the F-14 I highly recommend reading this article about why it is no longer and service and why the Navy wishes it was.

Did you know Top Gun 2 comes out next year?

Movies these days are generally disappointing, even the bad ones I generally enjoy but rarely are there many I would want to see over again much less 20+ times. Hollywood has become predictable and loaded with cliches. Everything is a prequel, sequel, reboot, or from the books. There is rarely anything original anymore.

Another movie I really enjoyed and really took me by surprise is Chef, check out my review I wrote a few months ago.

What are your top 3 favorite movies?

I’m active duty in the Navy. Tom Cruise and cast have been on and off our base for the past year filming the 2nd movie. They actually held a viewing of the old movie on base and the director and some of the cast of the new movie held a Q&A. Unfortunately no Tom. F-14s have been decommissioned for many years, although I’ll let you in on a secret... all Naval aircraft leak fluids lol. It’s not really a big deal. (Upvoted for visibility... lots of spam)

Gladiator, Rocky 1, The Hobbit (1977 edition not the new crap)

I don't even know if I saw the 1977 edition. I read the books and saw the new movies. Will need to check that out.

was not that a "cartoon"?

Going for Aliens, Starship troopers and ...go for edge of tomorrow.

Starship Troopers was a great sneaker movie. It's stupid as hell but I never expected to love it so much.

when i first saw starship troopers i thought it was genius. the book is ok too

It's a wonderful life, Starman and Mr. Smith goes to Washington.

oh man Starman, that was a good movie. That's an old one.

I'm an old one myself!

Gladiator is one of the best movies out there but I have to confess that i've never seen top gun. A shame, I know. I would put braveheart at the top of my list as it's one of those that I can watch every year and never get sick of. It's just a great movie.

Braveheart is a great movie, it has a certain mysticism and epicity, Gibson knew how to capture the essence.

I feel the need... It actually has one of the best soundtracks ever in my opinion too. I wore that cassette tape completely out when I owned it. My top three movies... Our, okay, here goes. Die Hard, Empire Records, Dazed and Confused.

Dirty Dancing - I know i know , it's a chick movie, but let's be honest guys , who hasn't seen that jump

Shawshank Redemption -Morgan Freeman at his best

Amour - I don't watch foreign films much but this made me cry

Dirty Dancing and Shawshank Redemption are fantastic flicks. I haven't seen Amour.

man top 3, hard pick. in no particular order: pulp fiction, blow, man from the earth (only movie that i watched twice in a row, after end credits i just played it again. not sure how would it hold now)

I gotta see pulp fiction again.

Devil's Advocate, Con Air and Scent of a woman.

Loved the first two, still have not seen Scent of a Women.

Al Pacino the actor whom i learn how to enjoy dialogue as singing. My direector in theater of pain said "That is a dialogue. Dialogue is like singing. You must try and try." and then he suggest to see al pacino movie.

The Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit Movies and then Gladiator. Gladiator was my favorite before Lord of the Rings, and then Braveheart was my favorite before Gladiator, and then Robinhood Prince of Thieves was my favorite before Braveheart...lol

Robinhood, probably the only movie I have seen as many times as Top Gun.

I like Top Gun, and although I'm eceptic with the sequels, Tom Cruise at least makes his movies entertaining so I've been waiting for Top Gun 2 since filming was announced. My favorite movies: Back to the Future, Back to the Future II and Back to the Future III.
