[Movies] The Voices

in #movies5 years ago (edited)

Jerry (Ryan Reynolds) is that chipper guy clocking the nine-to-five at a bathtub factory, with the offbeat charm of anyone who could use a few friends. With the help of his court-appointed psychiatrist, he pursues his office crush (Gemma Arterton). However, the relationship takes a sudden, murderous turn after she stands him up for a date. Guided by his evil talking cat and benevolent talking dog, Jerry must decide whether to keep striving for normalcy, or indulge in a much more sinister path.

I've have been a fan of Ryan Reynolds before he became Deadpool. I was talking about Deadpool with a friend and they recommended I watch the movie The Voices (2014) with Ryan Reynolds. I am considering not being friends with this person.

This movie was comically bad, and for some that is a big plus. I honestly have no idea how this film got a 6.4 IMDb rating. I tend to only watch movies rated 6.x+ and find they are generally considered really good. 7.x+ are usually my favorites.

The story is somewhat unique, but the way it plays out is cringe worthy. Ryan's performance was awkward, the script was terrible, and the story felt like a bad dream that you wake up from and are like wtf was that? I almost always watch movies to the end, but I seriously considered quitting after about 15-20 minutes in.

There is one artistic technique I really liked in the movie that you will realize until about halfway through the flick. I really appreciated the treatment used to illustrate his reality. A few scenes it seems like they accidentally messed it up themselves though.

I can't say I would recommend this movie to anyone unless you are really into a theatrical train wreck. The movie felt like they took all the blooper footage and turned it into a film. It pains me to say this as I really love Ryan Reynold's movies and I'm not a Deadpool bandwagoneer.

This picture of Anna Kendrick at the showing event sums the movie up really well.

I’m going to look out for this one. Watching Anna Kendrick the first was in Pitch Perfect, she’s such an amazing actress

I sometimes enjoy "theatrical train-wrecks" especially when the main actor goes on to do great things in spite of it. I see this is on Netflix so I'll likely scan through it but well, you know if it is as bad as you make it sound, it will probably be one of those films that I just scan through .
