(Small spoilers, be warned!)
Why the fuck should you watch “Synchronic”?
• You are a fan of time travel movies.
• When watching “Avengers: Endgame” you were the only one in the cinema, who were chanting: Falcon! Falcon!
• You like entertainment, but not like…being entertained too much. You like a very specific amount of entertainment. Not too little, not too much, juuust enough to keep yourself interested for 96 minutes and get some laughs.
• You like to go to film festivals and watch smaller movies instead of mainstream blockbusters.
“Synchronic” is a low budget science fiction movie that I had a chance to see at the Black Nights Film Festival this week and I was quite positively surprised. This movie has great main characters: Dennis (Jamie Dornan) and Davie (Anthony Mackie aka. Falcon) who work together as ambulance paramedics and see blood and death every day. These two have quite a nice chemistry on screen and look very believable in their roles.
One day weird shit starts to happen in their town. What do I mean by weird shit? Well, people take drugs, vanish, and then re-appear dead or with extreme injuries. You may think that, this sounds perfectly not weird in that part of the city where you live, but I assure you, it’s not what you think. The drug makes a person time travel. How? No idea. Is it cool? Yes.
Time travelling part was done well. I would like to see sequel with a 100 million USD budget, to flesh out the effects and CGI. Unlike my life at a moment, this concept they use has a lot of potential. I’m not going to spoil the concept and leave you to figure it out with Dennis and Davie. By the way one of them has a tumor. …just to throw some drama in there also. Or maybe it was a destiny?
Thing I learned: Past is a horrible place. Never go there!
…Damn that’s deep.
Why the fuck you shouldn’t watch “Synchronic”?
• You saw that Jamie Dornan is in this movie and expect another bad erotic love-story like “Fifty Shades of Grey” was.
• You just popped an unknown pill that some guy gave you at the club, and want to party with Mike Posner in 2016.
• You like movies that do something new in their genre.
• You are hoping for a super smart and complicated science fiction movie.
