Why the Fuck Should I Watch: “LOVE, DEATH & ROBOTS” (1-st season)?

Why the fuck should you watch “Love, Death & Robots"?
• You get bored quickly and can’t hold focus for long.
• You have a cat, it’s your best (only) friend and you would do anything for it, and you like to watch movies about cats with your cat.
• Your father forced you to quit watching cartoons when you were 7 years old, because they are for babies, and real men don’t do baby-things! Well this series is NOT for children. You can finally watch cartoons again.
• You like when people use their imagination to try to create something different (Not talking about the remake-king Disney at the moment, that’s for sure).

“Love, Death & Robots” is an animated science fiction/fantasy series on Netflix, that has 18 episodes and all of them are short stories (under 20 minutes) about very different things and are not connected. Also the visual style that is used is different in a lot of them. So, what do these stories talk about? Well, they talk about Love, death and…robots, didn’t see that coming, did you. You’ll find at least one of these themes in every single one of them. But what is the greater meaning of the whole series? I would like to believe, that it is – To make us think. Some episodes manage to do it better than others. A few of them are more like “sit back and enjoy”, but in general the series gets the brain working.

Since the episodes are all different stories then I will not write a general review, but I will say only one thought, that first came to mind, about each and any one of them. And yes, I will cheat with that one-thought-thing, because rules are for breaking!

1. Sonnie’s Edge – Never trust men, but more importantly – you should never ever trust women.
2. Three robots– Three robots investigating pussy.
3. The Witness – Not that interesting if you don’t like animated naked women.
4. Suits – I like the twist.
5. Sucker of Souls – Another episode about pussy.
6. When the Yogurt Took Over – If you want to get quickly into the mental institution for some reason, then learn this story to tell them.
7. Beyond the Aquila Rift – Matrix 4.
8. Good Hunting – The world is changing and you have to change with it!
9. The Dump - Not everybody will love your pets (And in this episode I saw more than I wanted to. Need to quickly watch “The Witness” again to forget!).
10. Shape-Shifters – Finally a shape-shifter movie that doesn’t have the plot-hole “How come the pants get bigger when Dr. Bruce Banner turns into the Hulk?”
11. Helping Hand – “Gravity 2” with Sandra Bullock.
12. Fish Night – No idea what just happened…but it happened regardless.
13. Lucky 13 – Emotional science fiction war movie – for me probably the best one in the 1-st season.
14. Zima Blue – We all know that one person who is an artist and artsy through and through.
15. Blind Spot – First thought: “Biker Mice from Mars” was a great cartoon (and the second: the best delivered „motherfucker“ line I have heard in any movie).
16. Ice Age – The real reason why you should take your old fridge, that uses freons, to a recycling center and get a new one.
17. Alternate histories – Well, that madness escalated quickly.
18. The Secret War - Against all odds war-story that keeps it real (well, not real per se).

Maybe you already realized that this series is for adults (18+). The adult content is not forced into the episodes to make it edgy, but it feels natural like life is – which is a weird thing to say, because none of the episodes were about ….natural things.

Why the fuck you shouldn’t watch "Love, Death & Robots"?
• You like: hate, life and biology.
• You like answers. You like explained endings. You like not to be left hanging.
• You are 7 years old, your Mom fell asleep, and left Netflix open.
• You are in a dark place with your life at a moment and need some comforting that everything will be ok.
