Foreign media reported that John Rafia, the screenwriter of the 1988 film "Ghostbusters" and the director of the 1990 film Ghostbusters 2, has died at the age of 63. Died of suicide. Don Mancini, co-writer of Ghostbusters, said in a statement:
"We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our friend John Rafia. He was one of the founding members of the "Ghostwa" family. He co-wrote the original screenplay for Ghostbusters with director Tom Holland and me, and went on to direct Ghostbusters 2, one of ghost fans' favorite series. "
"John is a very generous artist. He asked me to follow him to every meeting, to follow him in the studio, and in the process of making the film, he taught me more about filmmaking than he did in a few semesters at film school. John is also one of the most curious and creative people I've ever met, always taking pictures and recording ideas. Don Mancini wrote.
John Rafia was born in 1957 and graduated from UCLA with a major in film and television. Prior to writing the screenplay, he worked in the art department of Alex Cox's "The Messenger."
His director/screenwriter's best feature is the 1988 action comedy The Blue Iguana, starring Dylan McDermott. The film entered the midnight screening of the 1988 Cannes Film Festival.
In addition to the best-known "Ghostbusters" series, he wrote and directed the sci-fi thriller "The Thunderbolt" in 1993; in 2002 he wrote the thriller "The Battle of the Rats"; and in 2004 he wrote the TV miniseries "After the Nuclear Shock."
John Rafia has two children with his ex-wife.
