Hey gang,
Thanks for everyone that participated in my this post of mine. We eneded up watching The Neverending Story and turns out my daughter kind of liked it. Haha.
We almost didn't get through it because my daughter had a near-meltdown when this guy showed up in the first 5 minutes.
She was so frightened of him and was making appeals to watch another movie. We had a chat about whether or not she actually was afraid, or was just using this weird guy to watch another movie of her choice (rather than mine).
Turns out she wasn't really afraid of him at all and watched the rest of the movie without issue. She asked a lot of questions, which I love, and after the movie was over couldn't help herself from singing the Giorgio Moroder title theme.
My wife, who had never seen it either (how is this possible?!) was way less impressed by it. But hey, can't please everyone!
My daughter was also in love with the idea that this kid's name was Bastian. Because in her mind Bastion is a totally different thing entirely.
Good choice! I still like The Neverending Story :) By the way, the book doesn't end where the movie does, though (but is a bit difficult for a 5 year old..) Following!
The author was apparently very disappointed in this treatment because of the way the screenplay ended. he specifically said that the portion left out of the movie is what the book's name comes from and the themes covered are the only thing that makes the first part coherent.
Kathleen Kennedy was involved in making an adaptation of the book and completing it in its entirety (probably to the satisfaction of the author) but the project fell through and it looks like we won't be getting any new adaptations soon.
Hey, yeah, that's right. Michael Ende wrote the book and demanded his name wasn't in the movie credits.. Still, I love the movie and the book just the same :)
I have yet to read the book but maybe some day I will get around to it!
