I accidentally came across this movie. I had no idea what is about. I did not read anything about it before. I thought it should a very normal story of person who is fighting to survive and at the end will marry and live happily... I watched it so many times and I still feel attached to the story and the message it transfers.
Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins are the heroes in the film. It tells the story of a banker called Andy who is accused of killing his wife after having cheating on him. Based on the accusation, the hero is sentenced to death.
In the prison, Andy makes acquaintance with a lot of prisoners who liked the way he was treating them especially after he was quite close to the guards and on a later stage with the warden himself who made use of him to fix a lot of financial stuff.
What grabbed me to the story is the strong belief in the value of HOPE. Unlike all the other characters who decide to take their lives after their release, Andy teaches the meaning of how not surrender; how to make release, how to create to arrive to your goals the way you want!
Inside death you create life! Only Andy could! The man was cleaver enough to get out o what's considered to be a life grave using very simple contraband materials. Despite all the shackles and burdens, Andy, who has no history in breaking out or even getting to prisons or living with criminals, made it out to carry on his life away and the way he likes. Everything was efficiently planned!
Andy is the epitome of someone who is not made to be defeated a man of challenge. All senses of motivation and strength are there!
It's just an epic movie!
Frank Darabont based his film on novella Stephen King's Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption.
