Short Ass Movie Reviews: Better Off Dead...

in #movies7 years ago (edited)

Those who enjoy at least two of the following will likely enjoy this film: black comedy, surreal comedy, ski movies, John Cusack, romance.

Review:

Boy loves girl, girl leaves boy, boy skis to win girl back. A film that besides its beginning, ending, and casting of the ever-present John Cusack has nearly every element to classify it as "anything but a classic 1980s ski movie," still somehow manages to frequently top the list of "best ski movies of the 1980s." And despite that objective truth I haven't much to argue against that standard. Between a clusterfuck of irrelevant acts of hijinks shrouded in comedic surrealism and utter absurdity, Cusack's character almost completely circumvents the associated conventional responsibilities of even the lousiest downtrodden skiers only to triumph as if he fits the archetype to a capital T. It sounds ridiculous. It is ridiculous. And hilarious. And if this review doesn't make sense to you, that's okay, it shouldn't, and nor should Better Off Dead.

But it's worth a watch.

P.S. Diane Franklin is in it, and she is an absolute angel of a women, as well as my current desktop background.
