Don't get old.
This is now a classic movie with a mix of thrills, action, and what would have been a decent budget at the time. These days it is more obvious where the scale sets were used. The use of electronic music to enhance the visual aspects is done well, along with the directing. The movie does feel longish in place which means it is still worthwhile watching on a rainy afternoon, just as much to see how things were done a few years back.
After a major event the human population now lives in a city that is fully enclosed. The population are free to basically do as they wish with almost no work required. There is one catch however, in order to maintain population control the lifespan of the people is now 30.
So just make sure you don't turn 30. Not everyone wants to die at 30 of course. So we have those that run, called "runners". These people are tracked down and terminated by Sandmen. We have one Sandman that is given the task of finding and destroying a rumored sanctuary outside of the city where "runners" are believed to be, if they make it.
Our Sandman does manage to get outside the city, once outside he finds an idealistic world that doesn't seem to have any humans, except maybe one that isn't quite sure how old he is. Except to say that he is well over 30, and sports a grey beard. Something that hasn't ever been seen in the city. Now to get back in and show the people that there is life outside the city.
Sounds like a movie I would like now I will have to watch it :)
