Thoughts On Wanda

I personally thought the way the writers handled the ending of WV, Wanda specifically, poorly. Grief or no grief, she did literally terrorise and hold hostage the entire town and then Monica turns around and is like 'they'll NEVER know what you sacrifice for them' and its like excuse me what!? It's clearly them trying to be complex about the matter but also trying to have their cake and eat it too, framing Wanda sympathetically still (which she is, to a degree) without any proper consequences (she doesn't gain or lose Vision, her children still exist, she gets off free from any authorities; hell, if anything, she actually benefits: discovers new powers from the situation, as well as letting her find her strength, overcoming her trauma partially etc.) and trying to easen up the severity of her actions slightly more to the audience. That's one of my major issues with most of the MCU, the writers do not like framing many of the characters in a wholly flawed way, and they could have handled it a LOT better. It happens mostly when it reaches anywhere near any sort of meaningful political commentary. It's been a consistent thing since day 1 in the MCU though - for example, the only real film that has slightly even tried to wrestle with Tony's actions and war profiteering in any meaningful way was Age of Ultron, Ultron is quite literally the evil personification of Tony's worst self, of his utilitarianism. That element of the character is not really criticised as directly in much else, it falls to the wayside over time. On the contrary, a character like Black Widow is always wrestling with that dark side to her and they handle it surprisingly well (which is why I was so excited for the prequel to come out, though was disappointed as the other films explored that far more than BW did.
