Time for a bit more of a fun article.
Being the movie fanatic that I am, I have been looking forward to doing this list for a while now.
Was very tough to narrow it down to 10.
Here are the top 10 movies I would like to see either Remade or a Sequel.
I have also included the actor or actors I'd like to see in the lead roles.
I hope you enjoy my list and if there are any classics you think I have missed please feel free to tell me all about them in comments.
OK so the rules of this are nothing before 1980 and it can't be a movie that has been released in the last 20 years.
Further more my biggest rule is:
In the event of any of these actually getting a remake or sequel they can not be Directed by Ericson Core, written or rewritten by Kurt Wimmer and they cannot employ any other person or persons that was involved in that Point Break Remake. That was a disgrace and I am just glad Patrick Swayze wasn't alive to see that FUBAR of an attempt at recreating it.
Now lets get to it...........
Recap:
Framed by their ruthless arch-nemesis, a mismatched LAPD crime-fighting duo has to put its differences aside to even the score with the evil kingpin who put them behind bars once and for all.
Sequel or Remake: Remake
Actors I'd Like to see in lead role: Alden Ehrenreich (Tango) and Charlie Hunnam (Cash)
Will have a huge profile soon after Han Solo prequel. Just add those glasses and you have your new Tango
I know his movies lately are not the best but I'd like to see him do a good action movie. I reckon he could make Cash work?
My Thoughts:
Not enough just good old school action movies these days. I'd love to see an R rated ultra violent with dark humour remake with two modern day up and coming action stars. Gotta have cameos from Sly Stallone and Kurt Russell as well of course.
Movie Quotes:
Ray Tango:
I've got good news and bad news.
Gabriel Cash:
What's the bad news?
Ray Tango:
We're almost out of gas.
Gabriel Cash:
What's the good news?
Ray Tango:
We're ALMOST out of gas.
Recap:
An American football player and his friends travel to the planet Mongo and find themselves fighting the tyranny of Ming the Merciless to save Earth.
Sequel or Remake: Remake
Actor I'd like to see in the lead Role: I'd like to see if Ansel Elgort could muscle up and pull off a bit more of an extroverted character
He'd need to get blonder and muscle up but I think he could pull it off
My Thoughts:
I loved this movie as a kid. The over the top Space costumes and action. The evil Emperor Ming planning to attack earth.
So much they could do with this story, Space weapons, new Space Ships, huge intergalactic battles, aliens, CGI (the right amount, not over the top with it) and maybe a bit more of a serious story line that maintains some humour.
With the right Director this could easily be a Space Franchise type deal.
Long running Comic book series as well so there is heaps of material to work with.
Movie Quotes:
Colonel of Battle Control Room: General Kala, Flash Gordon approaching.
Kala: What do you mean 'Flash Gordon approaching'?
Colonel of Battle Control Room: On a Hawkman rocket cycle. Shall I inform His Majesty?
Kala: Imbecile! The Emperor would shoot you for interrupting his wedding with this news! Fire when Gordon's in range!
[Flash is on a Hawkman rocket cycle and escapes]
Kala: He's escaping, idiot! Dispatch war rocket 'Ajax' to bring back his body!
8: The Quick and the Dead (1995)
Recap:
A female gunfighter returns to a frontier town where a dueling tournament is being held, which she enters in an effort to avenge her father's death.
Sequel or Remake: Remake
Actor I'd like to see in the lead role: Eddie Peng
My Thoughts:
The 3:10 to Yuma showed Westerns could be re made well. The Quick and the Dead is not exactly a Classic screaming remake me but I just loved the Quick Draw Tournament style Plot.
Quick draw shootout duels are to Westerns what Lightsaber battles are to Star Wars.
I’d love to see maybe a remake with a bit more of a complex plot, with a bunch of weird and wonderful Western era Characters.
This one was different in the sense that the lead hero character was a female.
I like the idea of it being different to the usual Clint Eastwood types.
There were so many Chinese immigrants working the Frontier life, tell me one of them wouldn’t of had lightning fast hands? Maybe for something different this time they have a Chinese Gunslinger with mad skills.
Movie Quote:
John Herod: Mr. Hanlon, I wanted to ask you about Indian Wells. Did that fight really take place?
Ace Hanlon: It sure did.
John Herod: And it's true that you gunned down four men?
Ace Hanlon: Two with my left hand. Two with my right hand. You see, the truth is that I am just as good with either.
John Herod: You must be the fastest gun in the west... That, or the biggest liar.
Ace Hanlon: It's a pity you weren't there to find out.
John Herod: [laughter] Oh, but I was, Ace. You see, I was the one that really killed the Terrence brothers, and I doubt if a lying little chickenshit like you was even in the same state.
Recap:
An immortal Scottish swordsman must confront other immortal opponents who are bloodthirsty, brutal and lust for the fabled "Prize" bestowed upon the last one. There can be only one.
Sequel or Remake: Remake
Actor I’d like to see in the lead role: Jon Bernthal
A tougher grittier Highlander this time around would be good to see
My Thoughts:
I loved the story line although I think with a remake they could do a lot more with it.
Maybe go off world and trace back the origins of the Highlanders.
So many cool concepts with these movies -
The Quickening that happens to make you more powerful when you kill another Highlander
How they are immortal unless their head is cut off
The whole wandering through time witnessing and participating in the different wars/events
A lot to work with the a new Highlander Franchise.
What would happen if a mortal kills a highlander? Would the Quickening make them powerful? Maybe something like that could happen or be explored?
So many questions it could answer to.
Movie Quote:
Ramirez: [narrating] From the dawn of time we came; moving silently down through the centuries, living many secret lives, struggling to reach the time of the Gathering; when the few who remain will battle to the last. No one has ever known we were among you... until now.
Recap:
When a recently-deceased ghost couple find their now-vacant home invaded by an obnoxious family, they hire a sleazy ghost named BeetleJuice who specialises in scaring humans to help them.
Remake or Sequel? Sequel
Actor I’d like to see in the lead role: who else but Michael Keaton
I hope they bring the great man back for another go at Beetlejuice
My Thoughts:
Michael Keaton is still a brilliant actor and given all the make up/CGI that would be involved he could easily pull the Beetlejuice character off again, regardless of his age.
Imagine all the trippy special effects they could do for this with CGI now.
I love the different plot of a couple of Ghosts wanting to scare the living intruders out of their house
They could do an awesome looking modern take of this and make it funny I am sure.
Movie Quote:
Adam: What are your qualifications?
Beetlejuice: Ah. Well... I attended Juilliard... I'm a graduate of the Harvard business school. I travel quite extensively. I lived through the Black Plague and had a pretty good time during that. I've seen the EXORCIST ABOUT A HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SEVEN TIMES, AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE IT... NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT YOU'RE TALKING TO A DEAD GUY... NOW WHAT DO YOU THINK? You think I'm qualified?
Recap:
In a colourful future society, Bruce Willis is a cab driver who unwittingly becomes the central figure in the search for a legendary cosmic weapon called the 5th Element who can help defeat the Evil Mr Zorg
Remake or Sequel?: Sequel
Actors I'd like to see in lead role:
If it was centrered around an angelic 5th element type perfect female then: Cara Delevingne
If it needs to be a perfect female it makes sense to pick a supermodel who dabbles in acting again
Male Lead: Zac Efron - I think he can lose the pretty boy frat boy thing and move into more action movies as he gets older. This could be a "softer" transition for him into an action role
He pretty ripped so makes sense to try and move into the action roles instead of Frat boy roles
My Thoughts:
It’s hard to believe it has now been 21 years since this movie released.
Long overdue for a sequel!! Get Bruce back as Korben Dallas and Milla Jovovich as Leeloo.
Maybe they have a child who is even more special. The 5th Element’s child or something.
Just get all those characters back into some sort of Space Opera format and get Taika Waititi (Thor Ragnarok) to Direct it. The sense of humour he would inject into it would be gold.
The 5th Element Universe merged with Taika Waititi genius and you would have the best movie ever!
Would be a change of form for Bruce Willis to as he is starting to go down the Nicholas Cage road of churning and burning crap movies no one watches.
Need to get Taika Waititi for a 5th Element sequel. He is the perfect Director fit for it
Movie Quote:
Aknot: You asked for a case. We brought you a case.
Zorg: A case with four stones in it! Not one or two or three but FOUR! FOUR STONES! Wha... What the hell am I supposed to do with an empty case?!
Aknot: We are warriors, not merchants.
Zorg: "But you can still count! Look, it's easy. Look at my fingers. Four stones, (Lead Mangalore looks away, Zorg slaps face back to position) four crates [of guns]. Zero stones, ZERO CRATES!!!
4: Big Trouble in Little China
Recap:
Kurt Russell is Truck driver Jack Burton who arrives in Chinatown, San Francisco, and goes to the airport with his Chinese friend Wang Chi to welcome his green-eyed fiancée from China.
However she is kidnapped on the arrival by a Chinese street gang who Jack and Wang chase.
In their attempts to get her back from the Evil Lo Pan they embark on an adventure into the Chinatown underground and face off against powerful martial arts fighters, magicians and monsters.
Sequel or Remake: Sequel
Actor I’d Like to see in the Lead Role: Chris Hemsworth
Can be tough and funny just like Kurt Russell in his prime
My Thoughts:
I must of watched this movie 30 times when I was a kid. Given Kurt Russell is still alive and acting a sequel is totally doable.
I’d love to see Jack Burton back against a new mystical Asian threat.
Maybe in a smaller role given his age but any amount of screen time will do. Can’t forget Denis Dun who could come back as Wang Chi.
I imagine he would jump at the chance as I can’t see any roles in his Filmography since 2012.
We just don't get enough quality Martial Arts movies with cool story lines in Hollywood anymore.
There is so much they could do with this story.
Movie Quote: Jack Burton: Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky,
and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol' storm right square in the eye and he says, "Give me your best shot, pal.
Recap:
Marty McFly, a 17-year-old high school student, is accidentally sent thirty years into the past in a time-travelling DeLorean invented by his close friend, the maverick scientist Doc Brown.
Sequel or Remake: Sequel
Actor I’d Like to see in Lead Role: Dave Franco
I just have a feeling he could harness the Michael J Fox spirit of that character and be funny at same time
My Thoughts:
I know it’s probably sacrilege to touch these movies but I just want another one!
Michael J Fox's kid or something continues on the story or something like that.
Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd are both still alive albeit one has health issues and the other is 79 now.
The former is still photographed in public and the latter had a cameo playing Doc in the 2015 movie Million Ways to Die in the West so it is not impossible that they could have a smaller role in it.
We couldn't risk it getting ruined so they'd have to get the best director money can buy.
I'd love to see the script they would think up and it would be interesting to see their what their new vision of the future would look like. See the next step up from hover boards and what Jaws movie they are up to now!
Or just seem them travel back to a different time
See a new pimped up DeLorean
Would be awesome
Movie Quote:
Dr. Emmett Brown: If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits eighty-eight miles per hour...you're going to see some serious shit.
Recap:
A young man gets a strange new pet called a mogwai and accidentally breaks the golden rules for owning one causing an invasion of crazy gremlins on a small town.
Sequel or Remake: Hmmm either
Actor I'd like to see in the Lead Role: John Krasinski
He was just the first one to pop into my mind when thinking of a good male lead for a new Gremlins Franchise
My Thoughts:
You could go either way with this one sequel or remake. We don’t need the same actors or anything just a whole new story built around Gremlins.
Probably got to have Gizmo back though of course.
The old rules of don’t get them wet and don’t feed them after Midnight still applying and chaos ensue's but this time in our current time.
Lots of cool ways Gremlins could mess up a modern world full of technology
Could have some mutated Gremlin that trancends into the Internet and wreaks havoc.
Gotta have the Brain glasses wearing Gremlin back to, he was my favourite!
Movie Quote:
[at start of film, Mr. Peltzer is willing to pay $200 for Mogwai]
Grandfather: I'm sorry. Mogwai not for sale.
Randall Peltzer: Why not? You said everything in your grandfather's store was for sale.
Grandfather: With Mogwai, comes much responsibility. I cannot sell him at any price.
[at end of film after tons of mayhem errupted and is being shown on the news]
Grandfather: I warned you. With mogwai comes much responsibility. But you didn't listen.
[gestures at television]
Grandfather: And you see what happens.
Randall Peltzer: I'm sorry. I didn't mean it...
Grandfather: You do with mogwai what your society... has done with all of nature's gifts. You do not understand.
[entire Peltzer family is speechless with guilt]
Grandfather: You are not ready.
And now for the Number 1 movie I would most love to see a new one of.........
Recap:
Set in the future (2017 lol) Arnie is convicted of a crime he didn't commit and sentenced to participate in the worlds hottest game/reality show where criminals compete for their freedom.
In order to win their freedom back they have to get past/kill the Flamboyant stalkers who are all decked out with their weapons/outfits of choice and hunting them in different arenas one by one.
Que Arnie Carnage
Sequel or Remake? Remake
Actor I'd like to see in Lead Role: Who could replace Arnie? No one but I'd like Joel Kinnaman for it.
He is a big unit in new Netfix show Altered Carbon so maybe he could lead a new Running Man
My Thoughts:
With all the remakes and dodgy sequels in the world, how has Running Man not been re done yet??
How cool would this look if it was re made now with new Stalker characters and ideas?
As a kicker I'd love to see an Arnie cameo playing one of the stalkers in the remake!
I wish Hollywood would do this already.
Movie Quote:
Ben "Butcher of Bakersfield" Richards: Killian, here's your Subzero, now plain zero.
I hope you enjoyed my top 10 I'd love to see come back. Let me know in comments what you think, what I missed and if you disagree with my order.
Given I love so many different movies from that time period it was a tough list to settle on. Here are a few Honourable Mentions that nearly made the list:
Demolition Man
Starman
Demon Knight
Face Off
They Live
Thanks for Reading
- Dahmsy
Tango and Cash, beatlejuice, big trouble in little China, back to the future, I would love to see a remake or sequel. Along with Constantine part 2!
Fifth Element is too classic. It will be hard to beat!
I did enjoy Constantine, a sequel for that would be good to if they can pay Keanu enough $$ to do it
