Series that worth to watch: BOJACK HORSEMAN

in #movies7 years ago (edited)

I like animations. I like watching them because they are a good "break" from real movies with real actors. If you only watch "normal" series, I recommend you a Netflix cartoons. Currently they are very popular, these are their golden years. "Big Mouth", "Paradise PD" or "Archer" are real good movies, you can both laugh and grieve during watching this.

You have to remember that the fashion for the animated series didn't happen suddenly- TV series such as "The Simpsons" or "South Park" have a very old beginnngs, appeared before the year 2000. They created a new cartoon genre- adult cartoons. These series are continued today... and I have no way to finish them. But I will :)

All of cartoons listed above are great series and they have a lot of fans around the world. But there is also a completely different animated movie that changed this genre- Bojack Horseman.

Bojack was created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg in quite weird circumstances. Well, being a rich man, Bob (would seem to be fulfilled), one morning he would think about the meaning of human's life and what is the "thing" that keep him alive (I mean a goal or wife etc). He decided that life is a series of heppy, fortunate events after which inevitably sadness occurs. This is how the main theme of Bojack was born -  discontent, depression, sadness. Bob came up with the idea to somehow use these thoughts. So he started working with his old friend whose passion was drawing human + animal hybrids. After some time a script was written and Bojack Horseman was released on the Netflix platform.

The plot

Bojack Horseman is a half horse half man who became famous through the "Horsin' around" sitcom in the 1990s. After completing his career in this series, Bojack performed in little known, shitty productions and went down through alcohol and drugs. After eighteen years our main character decides to refresh his career and to be famous again. First, he employs a ghostwriter who task is write a book about himself. Our main character has a few friends who want to help him, but he has a hard-relationship with them through his big ego.

The action of the film happens in real time, but sometimes there are short scenes in the past.

Why "Bojack Horseman" is unique ?

Because we as the viewer identify with the main character. I think that a lot of the serial actions happened to everyone. Bojack is a unfortunate rich man and shows something that most of us felt - dissatisfaction despite the achieved goal. He is a good man, but full of bad emotions which makes his contacts with people difficult. Every person he meets in life can discourage himself. Each of us who has at least one such person who simply didn't like us will understand the message hidden in the series. During watching, I had a moments when I laughed and admitted that "Holy shit, I act like him".

My opinion can be weird but... I recommend you watch this series mainly when you are sad or you have "worse days".

Soundtrack

Cool in this series is the soundtrack, which is GREAT. Well playing on our emotions and adding climate to each situations. My best one is music in intro, just listen it.

Other characters

The threads of Bojack's friends are written quite well. There is a lot of stereotypes - Todd who is addicted to games, self-confident agent Princess Caroline, introvert Diane, narcisstic showman Peanut Butter... and few more. Each of them has its own separate story which constantly interweaves with the Horseman story. Secondary characters weave positive emotions to the series, which, unfortunately, Bojack doesn't have.

Episode with no words

If you like exeptional films necessairly watch s3e4. I don't want to write too much because of not spoil your fun. However, this episode is praiseworthy - not every studio can show the emotions accompanying the protagonist and the problems with which it is fulfilled ... without adding a voice to this character . And one more thing-music in this episode.

Abstract humor

Its typical for adult cartoons, many situations are heavily exaggerated but retaining the message. The series also includes jokes from many "forbidden" themes. I assure you that you will laugh often. :)

Raising important topics

Just a two words. Hybrids of human and animal, it is well done. Probably the most original idea to show the middle finger of racism. The show includes people, half people fish, and dozens of others. It is well shown how everyone is indifferent - I will say differently, no cat catches a rat for being a rat. Good idea, i love it.

There are also many references to celebrities, politics, sexuality and so on. In some episodes there are so-called cameo (short scenes with a real  star whose voice is given by this star). For example truly Naomi Watts gave voice to Naomi Watts in series.
